That video is certainly detailed, as you say he overcomplicates a bit and the visual at about 2.45 of him poking the paperclip in is all you really need. It's a good trick, and a PC power supply is actually quite a cheap way to get a reasonable wattage in 5v and 12v supplies for people interested in electronics.

The caps dont allways buldge when there screwed ,try spray the caps round the CPU with freezer spray.
Iv had this before but never tried to fix itv. New motherboard , unless your very good you will struggle
To replace them.

it could be the caps like others have suggested.
when my pc was overclocked to a crazy amount mine the sound on mine would kick in every couple of seconds and i could trace it back to when the cpu was under higher load.

also, this whine was coming from the psu area, took me a while to figure it out too as i initially kept thinking it was from the cpu area too.

Should of guessed it. Tried the PSU trick. No joy. The fans inside the PSU were spinning. There was the faintest rattling but was nothing loud at all.

BUMMER. What the fuck can it be then? I'm confused.

Maybe clutching at straws but perhaps only the PSU when under load? Perhaps hard to test though.

I guess the high pitched sound could be any random capacitor but the rattling is such a mystery.

Maybe if you replace the part that looks a bit like the entire computer, that might make it stop.

Yeh I think that might do it.

Well I might give up with this now unless some sort of breakthrough happens.

Will prob end up upgrading after the new year.

Sorry this won't help much, but I had something similar today - was messing around under a desk and heard a pc buzzing (very high pitched, not like the recording). As soon as I unplugged the onboard nic, it stopped. Nothing apparently wrong with the pc as I've actually been using it for various tests for the last couple of weeks!

Iam stumped too m8 without seeing it, if it helps my next step would be to try another PSU in it incase its only doin it under load. then if its still same i would redo the thermal paste under CPU, and whilst i was in there i would remove the mobo from chassis and power it all up ontop of summit non conductive that way you can have a good root around

will watch this thread with interest as i hate being beat lol

Looks like I was completely wrong! Turns out it was the GPU. Guy at work said to try another card, so we did. No noise!
Now the next step: do I need to buy a new GFX card? I don't really wanna spend so much money tho!

False alarm. Running with the new GFX card now and its still screaming like a bitch. Its defo the CPU!
