Default New job and new boss

and my new boss is a wanker. still finding my feet, only been in the job a week and ahalf and I hate it. Something petty I hate, maybe cause its the fact I've either been self employed or in a supervisory position prior to this but I hate being told what to do. Not so much being told what to do, i accept that , but in the time ive been with this firm I've not heard the word PLEASE once. Are manners to much to ask from a supervisor? I'm biting my tongue for the minute but would or do you DF'rs put up with it?

While I sit here and think about my answer, grab me a cuppa tea... Two sugars. Oh and a hobnob or two wouldn't go a miss either!

Manors cost nothing and I've always been a believer that you should talk to people the way that you would like them to talk to you.

As I believe it, manors cost a fuckin' fortune.

To be clear, I do speak to others in work the same way I'm spoken to. I guess it's just the culture where I work.

I remember working at a place for a very short time where I decided on day one I couldn't get on with the people as they all had zero manners.

I always say please and thank you !

    I notice when others don't !

And I would not (and have not in the past) turn up for work tomorrow if I was in the same position as the OP !

Start your own business instead !

there is a mutual respect in any workplace, manners cost nothing, I have a few guys working for me and always say please and thankyou it costs nothing it also in my experience gets the best out of people, I would raise it as an issue, have an informal chat and say you don't like the way you are being spoken to or asked to do things and see what they come back with?

    Make a stand.
Treat them like kids if they want to act like kids. I would sit there staring until I got a please. And if I didnt get one, I wouldnt lift a finger.

I dont give a fuck if they are paying my wages - Manners are free and create a much easier working atmosphere.

and Yes, I do work for myself!

Who can honestly say they enjoy their job? At least making sure being there is tolerable makes the difference.

I enjoy my job, if I didn't I'd change career and do something I would enjoy.

Doing something your not happy with just because it brings the money in might seem acceptable to most, but considering its what you'll be doing for approx 40 years of your life you should make an attempt to do something you'll be happy with.

Since the day I left the army I've never let ANYONE TELL me what to do !

They can ask me in well mannered way, if not I do the fucking opposite out of principal.

I also make a point of telling them why by sticking a few fucks into them.

    You reap what you sow.

Treat your staff like shit then they will drop you in the shit at every given opportunity.

Just to update you...my super supervisor actually said please to me Friday morning....
I shook his hand and said 'Thanx - Thats the first time I've heard you say please whilst I've been here'
he went on to deny and that he allways says please and that maybe I just didnt hear to which I pointed out that I'd been holding out for him to say it for over a week now. Hopefully Ive embarressed him enough to think, didnt see him all shift

He'd be right to think that too....I am a tit for working there. As I said have only been there a few weeks, I dont intend staying.....Just taking a steady wage through this quiet spell as I'm a self employed electrician and skilled mechanical fitter by trade. Nothing will be sweeter than when the time comes and I can tell him to stick it. I'd never realised that there were companies out there with such victorian values still. All I'm asking for in the time I work there is to be spoken to with some respect atleast...I'm not on my own here, theres people working there that have been there since school and dont know anybetter and except it. Some people given a little bit of authority turn to arseholes in an instant...these often tend to be the kids that were bullied at school. you know who you are.....

all bosses are cunts, if i was a boss, id be a cunt too and I'd enjoy it.

I've been at my current employer about 18 months and I think I've heard him say thank you once.

My boss has two key phrases:

    1. It's all do-able.
    2. Make it happen.
