Default Rooted my i9000 (Samsung Galaxy S)

    And installed a custom Rom.

Best thing I have done with the phone. Thought it kicked my iPhone's arse before. But now it flies. Outstanding. Quick smooth.... In a word, awesome!

I also have got rid of all the Samsung bloat. Just Android, as it was intended.

Check your phone has the recovery mode available before you do anything. This always allows you to get back to square one and makes the phone nearly impossible to brick.

    I used XDADevelopers forum.

Like said above. Make sure you have the 3 button trick enabled.... It's confusing at first, I spent an hour or so reading. But once you understand the termanology it's actually very simple.

out of interest which rom did you install and have you modified it in any way yourself. I installed froyo 2.2 from there the other day and it was a fairly smooth process.

I installed DocFroyaJPA V7.2. I was waiting for the Cyanogenmod Rom for the i9000, but got fed up waiting... Ironically they released the RC for the i9000 the day after.

I didn't make any mods. And I was going to overclock it, but it runs so nicely now I don't see a need to. I will probably stick with this rom until 2.3 is released. Then see what is about.

I will be flashing my phone this week, as all the unwanted O2 stuff is draining my battery.

What's the best rom you've found to date?

The Cyanogenmod Rom would be worth a try. If you don't like it, flash another.

I am using DocFroyo7.2.... I am very happy with it. He has an 8.0 beta out at the moment.

It's basically stock android with a few tweaks.

You can then add many kernels which improve the phone. I added Backlight Notifications, and I did overclock the CPU. But I have since removed that. Using Quadrant Benchmarking I was getting scores in excess of 2200... I think the standard phone gets about 1400.

Here is the info for the cyanogen mod.... I am not running this, but would have if it had been released when I rooted. I will hopefully swap to this when 2.3 is released.
