Office 2010 Activation

Got something I think may be worth looking into - I just installed office 2010 (eopen version) for the first time on a few work pc's and I wasn't asked for any form of key. I know it is possible to set up a license server in a corporate envoironment, but we haven't done so yet.

Anyone know wtf is going on? I'm getting very tempted to make copies for use elsewhere but would hate to find out ms have encoded the serial into the download or something.

It requires server based license verification

the way i do it is via the vamt tool

install vamt, enter the license key, the server verifies it and associates the appropriate product, then you install the key

i find the server is sometimes a tad flakey but retries usually succeed

Without the key btw youll start getting messages that the product hasnt been activated

check the home > about screen for the activation status

Damn, I assumed they would have started popping alerts the moment you run the s/w like with 03 and 07. Hopefully these installs don't cock up as I'm taking it easy this week and won't be in for 4 weeks so no license server till mid jan I reckon.

the nag screens start which are followed by the title bar going orange iirc

I havent known it to stop working but then i may have verified the keys before ms blocked things
