this is the only way i believe
Devices that have TFT Screens have the build Number OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08 (OLED can have this buid also - but rarely)
Devices that have OLED Screens have the build Number OUK_P729BV1.0.0B05
i dunno about the unlock but in general use the phone is fine, I used my friends for a while, insalled apps on it and so on and (sadly) its not really that much different to my Desire. Any real differences are probably because im looking for them. His is still orange branded too.
Torn between this, the defy (which does rediculously well on benchmark tests against it's peers) and the htc hd2 which can be hacked every which way including windows phone 7. It's only for a spare phone - my little used work sim can go in it, unless I get sucked in by android

Is it really that big a deal? The LCD can't be that bad in comparison. It's an £80 phone at the end of the day!

HI
Thanks for sharing this ROM here, had a SanFran for a while but never thought to look here, (I normally go straight to the game sections)
A quick questions if you'd be so kind..
I have been using the Jap Jellyfish Roms, is the Modaco one any better?
My mate is sticking with 2.1 until a rock solid stable 2.2 comes out, could this be it?
Also I can't seem to download to try it, I get a username/password error?
Should I be using a FTP client or can I download it using chrome?
Thanks for making the effort to share with us all
Well, I didn't personaly use the Jellyfish Rom, but from what I have read, its a battery eater compared to the Modaco rom. This rom now seems rock solid to me, and I havent had a single screen lockup since I installed it. Either way, do a quick nandroid backup and its a doddle to return to what you were on before.
Every so often the FTP server seems to crash, so when I see someone having problems, I try connecting using DroidFTP, which I just did, and got straight in. What details are you using to connect, as I just looked in the log and saw 90.208.105.6 (is this you?) attempting to connect but using a really long password (its shown in *'s) rather then the 4 character password **** I would expect.
i wish my local argos would restock the grey ones, I'm not wanting a white one. Also I read on the modaco forum that existing orange customers can call up and get the handset for £79.

Yeah that was me, stupid bloody computer, managed to grab it now via DroidFTP as you suggested.
Your right it does seeem more stable, just done 40mile round trip & GPS worked fine & managed to update Facebook whilst on a farm in the middle of god knows where!
Both of these I had issues with on Jellyfish & the screen locking up to, but in the few hours I've had this one, I'm quite impressed.
Thanks again for the share
There are no problems that I can find with my server tonight.
If you have problems with ftp, you can downlod the roms from Modaco, though you have to pay to get the latest generation (as I have). Release 7 is the current one for the free accounts.
I should add that occasionaly I will switch the server off if I am playing Call of Duty or something, as a download screws me and makes me even worse than I normaly am !

What ROM is everyone running at the mo ?. I using the Jellyfish R8, its nice and stable but the battery goes down pretty quick.
sorry to send the thread on a tangent but where's best to get one of these at the mo? mite get one the missus for valentines day.
ooh, and to contribute a bit of info, if your batt is going down a bit nippy, ive found turning off data saves a lot of battery, obviously your apps n stuff don't update, but for me its ideal as I only check texts most of the day. I got home today and its still on 60% charge, usually it would be about 20% less.
switchpro gives you access to a quick button to toggle it, worth it imo.
Incase no-one has checked, Rom v11 is on my FTP now. Been running it for a couple of weeks now, its rock solid.
