Personally I'd go for this one for the extra few quid.

I was in PC World in Newcastle on Tuesday and have to admit I was pretty impressed with this. And you get a Bluray player and 2 pairs of glasses.

Plus VAT goes up in January so it will be a while before a reasonable price drop IMO

I had the Panasonic 50VT20 Plasma on Monday. I know its a fair bit dearer than most of the others but I could tell the difference after testing them.

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/panaso...18170-pdt.html

Very impressed with it, both the 2D and 3D picture. Got the "free" Bluray player and 2 pairs of glasses. And sent off for 4 free films inc Avatar. I thought the 3D on the Panny seemed alot more clearer than any of the LCD/LED 3D TV's I looked at.

I've downloaded a few SBS 3D HD rips from the net, and they too look great. They play straight via flash drive from either the TV or Player.

2.5% on 1k is only £25 - not going to make a huge difference, just like when VAT went down. Drop in price is likely to be noticeable when more sets come on the scene and that's likely to hit the price far more than the VAT increase.

I've got a samsung ue46c8000 i plumped for this as i think the extra brightness Led affords you compensates for the loss of brightness that occurs when u wear the 3d glasses.A bit pricier but in my opinion worth it and still cheaper then the panasonic vt20.
My advice though is try before you buy and see what suits you also check out the same sets in different shops as enviroment can make a huge difference when demoing.
I demoed the model you have your eye on and honestly thought it was one of the worst for crosstalk (ghosting) be patient and pay the extra and hopefully be happy with your new TV.

I've just bought a panny 50vt20 which was a tad dear but my m8 also bought a panny 42gt20 which is basically the same set minus a few features. 2 pairs of glasses, 3d bluray player and 4 films all for £1149. He's got a ps3 so he's selling the player as it's worth £250-£300 on it's own and also selling the 3d avatar which is currently selling on ebay for £150+ (mad i know) so he'll end up with a way better tv than a samsung and for about £700....not bad
You see, TheThingIs, eventually you'll be all right!

Depends on your personal preference and what you are looking for tbh. LCD (and LED) seem to generally have a seemingly brigher picture, plasma's are more muted and natural. I personally prefer the look of LCD, but the low lag for gaming and reduced 3d ghosting of plasma's swings it for me. They both have pros and cons though, so you are better actually going to a shop and having a look at the different sets before buying any.

I got the 50" samsung C680 for £899 from comet (with a 3d bluray player) and its been excellent. The image retention hasnt been bad at all, and one feature that I think is quite uncommon on other brands is the 2d>3d conversion, which actually works pretty well.

It's definitely worth checking them all out before you buy - I was in Best Buy a couple of weeks back and tried all the ones out they had in store - I also thought the Panasonic VT20 was the best of them all by far!

I don't know which Samsung model it was I tested but I noticed terrible flickering of the white walls behind the TV which I wouldn't be able to stand for more than 10 seconds without feeling sick - not sure if it's just me (have always been sensitive to flickering unless high refresh rates are used) or whether it was a fault with the glasses (low battery maybe). The 3D bit looked alright - just everything off screen was flickering like mad!

The Sony set they were showing was also pretty impressive I thought too.

I don't think there will be any major changes to the tech in the near future (glassless ones are years away, if they ever actually make it at all - I doubt they will as the ones produced so far are small, sub-hd, and incredibly expensive).

I'm still not 100% convinced that the 3d thing will grow legs - personally I love it, but as long as the manufacturers restrict who can access the limited 3d material that's out there (forget nzb's), then less people will adopt.

Is it just me or has anyone been underwhelmed by 3D TV's?? Watched one while in John Lewis and Costco a couple of times, but it never looks that great TBH. 3D film in the cinema is 1000x better IMHO. It's kinda putting me off buying one really.

I've downloaded a few SBS (Side By Side) rips and they work great plugged straight into the TV via USB. Resi Evil, Despicable Me and a few more. Maybe the quality isn't as good as a full bluray but I was still impressed.
