£518 from currys as a price match with jessops (who had none left in the uk at the time).
This included bag, 4 mb card but I dipped out on uv filter as currys do not do these.
As stated, great bit of kit, was so suppriced on how long the battery went.

3100 was a lot light than expected, and has a more "happy" feel in my hands than the cannon 550.

The best adive i've been told to do is to buy bigger filters 58mm and get a 52 -58 step up ring, so can keep filters when upgrading in years ahead.

    Hope this helps.

will post 5 pics taken the other day for you

had a play with a 1000d in comet the other day and like it's feel. How does it compare to the higher end Canons ? still serious kit or a Fisher Price version ?

1000 is nice, but showing its age in my humble apion.
Was taking to a lass who had a nic 90 and that is ment to be better than the d3100, but she says that its not, as its getting old as well.

just posted 6 pics for you in the photo section.
Remember, was just firing it off to play with it at the time.

The Nikon D90 is 2 steps up from the D3100, some of the technology will have improved and they will have squashed more pixels on to the sensor but on an DSLR it doesn't really matter that much anyway. The Canon equivalent for comparison is the 1000D-60D. I would still buy a 50D over a 1000D even though it has been around a while.

As for the 1000D it is a nice little camera, it has been around a few years and I would be expecting a replacement at some point. One thing it misses that I like to have is spot metering and I think it comes with the older non IS 18-55mm lens which some people say is a bit of a dog.

The suggestion about buying filters bigger and step up rings, go to PC world they are flogging the smaller filters off cheap. The thing is how far do you take it? I would have bought all 77mm filters if I had known all my lenses would need them but I didn't and have a few different sizes now. I know very little about Nikon lenses I would look at what filter sizes their pro range of lenses use and buy them on your way of thinking. Don't forget that you will need to replace the lens cap to fit the new filter size on the front of the lens, the idea is you leave your UV filter on all the time to protect the front element.

A D90? jesus if she thinks the D3100 is better, swap, they are completely different classes of camera.

All manufacturers have classes to their cameras, a 10megapixel semi pro camera, even one thats 2 or 3 years old will outperform any entry level camera, at least to some extent, obvious improvement comes in certain areas comes as technology advances but manufacturers purposely restrict their entry level machines for this reason.

Picked up a canon Eos 550d with a 18+55 lens for £650 from Wildings .

Jessops was an extra tenner and wildings were offering a better package for £105 instead of the £108 from jessops which was just a spare battery a uv filter & a bag and 8 gb card.
Were wildings gave me a for £105 extra
    8 gb card /58 uv filter/led protector/camlink tripod 330 /hama colt bag/digi lp -e8 batt/58mm cpl filter.
Not bad i thought all together £754.99
