Photo printing - Compatible cartrdiges or Original (Epson printer)

As i am now using my printer to actually print photos I wonder if there is a difference between compatible carts and original ones?

Of course even at best price, I cant get anywhere near the price of compatible carts, I also note the ink level is about half in the Epson ones (7.4 compared to 13. in compats)

Anyone have any experience or views on this as a user?

depending on what type/brand you use.
what printer is it
we sell all the cheaps epsons but along side them we do stock INK-RITE inks.& have done for many years.i do alot of photo printing & only use ink-rite
fantastic quality in my Epson r300 & r285.
more ink too.
the common stuff like projet or unbranded are ok but not a patch on the better ink-rite.
BUT i must sell 100 sets of cheap ink to every 10 sets of cheap shite.
all pack of tight ars pirate types who will travel 10 mile to save a penny.lol
for example 1 set r300 cheap £5 or ink-rite at £16.(both my printers are 6 cartridge machines.better colour for photo)
so its up to you try what suites your pocket & see what looks better.
good paper helps, dont be drawn into the crap from pound shops, cos its crap.
cost of original inks are a rip off.

It is an epson PX650

When you say INK-RITE inks, are these carts with these inks in (are they a quality ink) or are these for refilling? I don't like refilling after screwing up a rather pricey plotter.

i have just looked on the ink-rite web site(part of media international) & looks like they have stopped making them.not one compatible ink on the site anymore,
looks like epson may have won the court case they were in.
i will have to look for a new better ink.
im gutted as it was a fantastic ink.

Looks like i'll play it safe. These are pretty important and desired photos.

Still interested in any like for like alternative, but on this occasion a Epson set will have to do.

There are loads of compatibles out there. Looking again now, went through a massive print run. I cannot believe there is a difference. It is a pain needing these NOT to mess up.

Anyone with any new news? I cannot find one single user review/comment nor any manufacture testimonies making me think these are not as good. But at such a high extra cost I am not sure if tweaking is an option for output.

The problem with just about any inks, even the more expensive ones is they fade pretty rapidly if you have your photos in sunlight, you really need to use good inks and good paper to get something that's going to last.

Save yourself the hassle and just get them done at a proper lab, will work out cheaper and the quality is so much better

Cheers 909, I have bought very good heavey weight paper and as we live in a flat we dont have a sunlight issue where these are hung. In the past, I have found any photo in the sunlight does not last.

I do not mind buying the official Epsom inks even at their high cost, I just wanted to see/read evidence they are worth that costs. In terms of over all costs when I buy in such bulk I am producing it cheaper than at the lab. Will now look to buy the ink in bulk as well.
