Is it worth buying an iPad in New York?

I should be going to New york for a few days in late Febuary - my birthday is on the 5th Feb and my V nice girlfriend has mentioned buying me an iPad for it. I only want the basic wifi one but I was wondering is it going to be better to wait a couple of more weeks after my birthday till im in the USA and buy one there or is the saving not that great? (eg if its only £30 difference then Id rather get one here.)

Yes it is. I got my 16gb and the official case and saved around £80 (but depends on exchange rate).

However.... the iPad 2 will be out in a few months and they will obviously be better. If you are not interested in an iPad 2 then the 2nd hand market will be flooded with the original model for less.

Thing is, that's never happened.

When the iPhone 3G was released the secondhand price of the original iPhone didn't crash. When the 3GS was released the 3G prices didn't crash and when the 4 was released, the 3GS prices didn't crash - and remain very strong today.

I've never got this waiting for the next model of anything. Laptops, GFX cards, phones etc. If the current model does what you want, go for it. You can always sell and trade up at some point, or you're always waiting, just in case there's a better/faster/etc. model just around the corner.

I can't wait for the new one purely because of this reason..

At the moment me and the missus fight for time on ours. I could never justify buying a second, but a new model will seem more acceptable, then she can have the 'old' one (naturally)

Ha-ha.. I've used that method of upgrading for years, she gets all my old cast off stuff.

Actually she already has my 3GS and she uses CineXPlayer all the time on MY iPad.....
