I do a lot of downloading via Astraweb using SSL conection and being able to download a dvd in 4 minutes is worth the tenner to me

ive been throttled on 50MB for months now, regardless of which port i use, have currently got it set to 443 and cant get over 2.5 a second, bit shit really but gonna have a check if 100MB is available in my area yet

Which News provider are you with and are you using SSL?

Im fine if I use port 443. although takes a few attempts to connect. Maybe the crap newsreader im using (grabit).

have tried using european and american servers, ssl and non-ssl and tried various ports and still cant get any higher, had virgin out complaining that my downloads werent what they should be and when the engineer came he downloaded several ISO's from Virgins site and they came down at the correct speed so cant argue with them over it either

I'm not paying an extra tenner on top of what I'm already paying for 50 meg as I can d'load a 360 iso for example in under 25 mins anyway ! I thought that this would be a free upgrade for 50 meg users but obviously not. It's possibly worth it if you do a lot of uploading I suppose

personally i wouldnt mind paying it if they can guarantee that i wont be slowed down AT ALL - as in if they can guarantee me unlimited and with no traffic shaping measures

i'm the same as Mystical_2K,same set up and have tried the same things,altho i can get upto 5meg on 443 after 12 at night,during there peak times port 443 is the same as any other for me..20 connections here aswell on newslecher.

most speed tests these days only give me up to 20 meg aswell,altho i'm getting the full 5 for upload now

People still getting traffic shaping applied on Virgin on here even using SSL seem to be using Newsleecher. I'd be interested to see what happens if you try another client like SABNZBd and set it to use SSL just to rule that out.

Virgin are shite for uploads. Last night I was testing out a 3g dongle and found it gave me 3 times the upload that my virgin 10Mb gives!

Are you getting the same speeds over 119/563?

If these speeds are lower than you may be just be suffering from contention congestion.

VM are a bunch of lyin b$%t$%rds. they absolutely guaranteed they would not traffic manage their new 50meg customers EVER (that was the main selling point for most uptakers)and and barely a year down the line they are doing just that.
