music Any DF Metal Heads? Best Bands/Albums/Performances?

After having (to be honest a rather quick) look through the music forum, there doesnt appear to be much on my personal fav genre of music.... 'METAL' - and all of its sub-genres.

Just curious if there are any metal heads and what your fav albums/bands and live performances may be?

My personal band of all time are extreme metallers, Cradle Of Filth.

Fav album - Cradle Of Filth - 'Midian'

Best live Performance:- Twisted Sister live @ Bloodstock Open Air 2010

favourite metal band are (and have been for a long time) queensryche. Favourite ever gig was their complete theatrical run through of operation mindcrime, which is also my favourite album ever.

I tend to like all metal. My favourite 'other' gig has been probably motorhead in Los Angeles which was properly brutal but oh so enjoyable. Blood and bruises everywhere but everyone walked out best of mates. As it should be.

I was also about 2 metres from the people who died during Guns n roses at donnington. Grim that day was.

Seen Iron Maiden about 5 times, and thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Slayer are excellent live too and South of Heaven will always be in my top 10 albums. As is Megadeth's So Far So Good So What ?

Seen Metallica about 4 or 5 times and they always disappointed me live. Shame but the studio albums are mostly great, especially Master of Puppets.

On the softer side, I enjoy Bon jovi, Def Leppard and even the odd blast of Whitesnake (great live btw!)

that is freakin' awesome! unfortunately never seen Maiden or Slayer or 'tallica. 3 bands i really wish i could. (normally work is the problem, otherwise i could go to UK's 2 bigger festivals to catch them)

Not that much up on Queensrych, but metal hammer magazine never have a bad word to say on them.
Seen Megadeth 2 years back at a small venue and was quite let down by them, 1 down, 3 to go of the big four lol.

They released a follow up eventually called mindcrime 2 and toured the both as a complete show about 2 years ago but I couldn't go :-( the album is obviously trying to pull themes and riffs from the original but it hasn't ever grabbed me like it's predecessor

Tell you who I did discover the other day on Scuzz as it happens, was airborne. Proper old school 80's/90's metal but out right now. Very entertaining

yeah,, Airbourne are insane live, saw them headline the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2010 at the 02 Indigo arena last year. they r clearly AC/DC inspired, but pull it off so well.

i'm really hoping for sonisphere tickets and the time off work, could be my only chance to see such awesome bands in one festival.......but Biffy Clyro? big 4 on friday....Slipknot on the sunday....biffy in the middle?!?! RAPE SANDWICH!!!

    O,YES!!!

Whitesnake is my all time fave (the up to 87 stuff not so much the hair metal crap, although "Good To Be Bad" was good) never saw the original line up because I was too young .

Seen a lot of the big ones & did Donnington a few times in the late 80's, early 90's and also Download 2009 classic rock day (Sunday).

Still listen to Ozzy, Maiden, Quo, Def Leppard, Georgia Sats, Deep Purple, Sabbath, AC/DC, Led Zep, Hendrix & countless more.

A couple of good recent bands are Black Stone Cherry, The Answer & Voodoo Vegas.

Also go to any local cover bands, been some real good ones lately Inc. Live wire, UK G&R, Dirty DC, Whole Lotta Led & The Hamsters (not just a cover band). You really can't beat the value for money.

Always listen to Planet Rock on DAB at any opportunity. Today's music is just shite !!

With Matt Cardle as special guest ? Cue the bottles of piss !

Extreme were at one of the Donningtons I went to (maybe the AC/DC year?) and had countless bottles lobbed at them. Funny as fuck

yeah i love supporting any local bands and cover bands r brilliant. in Lowestoft, there is a good (ok, fucking awesome) Ozzy Osbourne tribute called 'Ozzie'. I personally think their solos probably mimic, if not better those of Rhodes and Wylde. (ok, may b abit overboard there.....) but best tribute band ive seen along side The Dirt (Motley Crúe tribute)

I fucking adored Motley Crüe in the early 90's but can't seem to enjoy their music now.

I remembered another band I loved and still listen to a bit (one album's worth anyway) is Skid Row

If you want to go a bit more grunge/Seattle then both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden are regular listens of mine, especially Pearl Jam's "Black" which makes my hairs stand on end reminiscing about late nights at house parties doing questionable things ;-)

O chist, forgot Motley Crue, one of the best gigs ever. I saw them at Wembley with a awesome drum solo. Yep, I know what you're thinking, but check it out HERE

Ozzieuk are down my way in March, I'll check em out. Thanks!!

oh hell yeah. dunno if a simple water bottle would hold sulphuric acid? haha

Faith No More are preety cool. not a big fan, but i appreciate their stature in the scene.

Shame Motley just cant cut it anymore, just recently got Vince Neils auto-bio to read up. cant wait to read from their side of things from around the mid/late 80's stuff, touring with GnR and the mishappenings with nikki Sixx n slash

I might be on the worse end of the age spectrum here. Kiss are my all time for a gig, visually, nobody can touch them even if musically they're lacking. I've seen Motorhead most years since 1980. Metallica have been good when I've seen them, but I still see them as a more polished Motorhead. As mentioned, Skid Row were very good and had they not had their isses with the contract with Jon Bon Jovi could well have been absolutely massive.
Way off now, but if you ever get chance to see Dumpys Rusty Nuts (honest!), you really will be in for a treat.
I was also at the Donnington when the two got crushed, as I went to most of the Donningtons until it turned into Download, or whatever it is now called. Faith No More were great, Iron maiden sadly lost their way, IMO, Motley Crue were just a total laugh! But for real fun, Bad News doing "One of our longer numbers; Vampire Spunk Merchants From Hell" now that was at a time when a lot of metal bands were taking themselves far too seriously.
    Great thread!
    Apathy? can't be arsed.

I saw both of them at Reading '87, what a great weekend.

Here's some footage of MGM (Bernie Marsden, Neil Murray & Mel galley R.I.P. from Whitesnake) at Reading '87
