That is absolutely disgusting!
Being an engineer myself, I can honestly say, hand on heart and may lightening strike me down tomorrow, I have never snooped around anyone's laptop unless I was specifically asked to do so (to back up information for them).
These fuckers should be prosecuted under the privacy act - they are giving the rest of us a bad rep! FFS!
yeah i gotta agree, if i have a laptop/desktop etc to fix the last thing i do is go snooping through them, at the end of the day if i have been asked to backup files then i will generally do it with the person or ask them to remove any files they want backed up themselves (if possible) before i do a rebuild.
doesnt suprise me that people do this tho as i have seen it first hand at a shop i used to work at
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.
Moved here...news & current affairs not the correct section IMO.

You sent me your Harddrive yet matey
You can never be sure when you hand over anything like laptops or even mobile phones. if it isn`t a rep dealer then who knows what they can extract from it
EDIT: i am just fixing a work friends laptop, she has so far got 100 malware/trojans and numerous adware. I could go into her private files but i dont want to. The industry needs to be regulated somehow. On another note this is how they caught that peado glitter as he had images of kids on his laptop he took into be repaired
best thing to do is make sure all your personal stuff is in an encrypted folder
Quite shocked at some of those quotes, £100 for a laptop mobo is a bargain but to reseat a memory stick is ridiculous. I am very surprised PC World got off with a nonsense explanation, they charge a fortune anyway but I never thought they lied about the work they did.
ive fixed loads of peoples laptops and computers and never once thought about getting their private info from them, i have seen lots of strange things over the last 15 yrs though including a customer bumming his wife and spunking all over her - the pictures were ont he desktop btw. i did not have to look for them.
but that is nothing compared to what ive seen go on at places like cash converters and cash generators. ive seen customers machines stripped of parts, parts replaced, property kicked about like footballs, swapping a customers working product for a faulty shop stock, jewellery undervalued, a diamond machine set to low to make out that their diamond ring was in fact fake to get it for peanuts..
i could go on, it was hard to say anything because the managers knew it was happening and on some occasions did it themselves.
oo i forgot the best one, when customers brought camcorders in for buyback they allways checked them for porn, i lost count how many peoples personal recordings were copied for others to watch.

Same here ,i have fixed pc, laptops & printers for the same company for 20 years this year & never let my staff or me do anything like that. we have recovered stuff for customers like passwords , photos & the like.but never snooped to gain bank details or anything like that.
pack of twats.
i have herd of a couple of other PC shops in our town damaging pc & laptops or even nicking parts out of them or swapping them for faulty parts.
i wont name names but they are feckin cowboys both of them.
One Shop has changed names 4 times in 4 years & had more business partners than i dont no what, the odd mate who can put 2k in becomes partners.pack of tossers.the two shops im talking about dont pay tax its all cash . i dont think they pay wages & stamp ,its staff ar cash in hand.alot of the pc & 2nd hand laptops they sell are all hucky copys of windows on them,6 months down the line we end up getting them in for repair.
pisses me off big time.
we have a good rep & alot of word of mouth.

Oh and I forgot to comment on the company which actually damaged the laptop they sent in after their quote was rejected! They should be taken to court for that. It is people on the video who damage the reputation and trust in this industry. The same goes for most professional industries, one or two bad apples severely knock the trust of people looking for their services. I over compensate by heavily undercutting on labour charges, don't charge for a lot of time if a job overuns etc.
When I used to end up with loads of mate's pcs that I would repair for free, I would always have a look around, I used to consider anything interesting I found as my payment, although by interesting I was only looking for pics/music/videos.
For me times have changed, I haven't got time to fix people's pcs and at work I have a nas drive with well over a hundred backed up user profiles and the only time I've ever looked at them is when I've needed to look for missing data.
Sorry chaps and chapess's it's old news

Moved to HOS as it's a repost. However due to there being plenty of responses I won't delete as is normal procedure for reposts.
