broken tab replacing logic board in iphone 3g

I have broken off a tab whilst repairing my iphone. i was replacing the logic board and the little brass coloured connector about 3/4 way down (stuck out) broke off and disappeared. any idea what this does and do i need it. it appears to connect the logic board to the case. i dont know if its me but my signal strength seems lower than before but cant seem to find any other problems yet. any ideas would be appreciated thanks. (i posted similar before site went down but it seems to have got lost)

just below where it says infineon umts . little pointed thing

its the ground i think if i recall theirs 2 of those so u shouldnt worry about it.
