Well your exhaust can is an extra for a start. I've never bothered telling insurance companies that I've had aftermarket cans

i always go for full disclosure.
i worked at a main dealer for a while and we stored crashed bikes waiting to be assessed by the loss adjusters - the amount of bikes that were declared non-insured due to undisclosed modifications.

one bike was declared non-insured because the owner fitted a different clutch slave cylinder and didnt tell the insurance company

So does it make much difference to the premium then? Sounds pretty harsh to deem a bike non-insured because of an aftermarket can (road legal of course) thought that it would just mean you wouldn't get paid out for the value of the can. But then again i've never made a claim so i wouldn't know.

Remember one thing, an Insurance Company CAN and WILL use any excuse to avoid a pay out.
As for disclosing on a second hand bike and the "how can you know* question? it's YOUR responsibility to find out, "not knowing" is never an excuse in the Law.
    If at first you don't succeed.....redefine success. . . .

My Sister was involved in a accident last year the insurance company plus the police were all over the bike lucky enough she had all the extra's listed including her can they even picked up on her clear lense's on the indicators. But on a side note any reason for the SV i always found them lumpy around the town one of the reasons i bought the wife a ER6 which was smoother and alot quicker and really good fun on the twistys

I’ve always wondered about this myself.
My bike currently has aftermarket cans, screen, crash bars, HID dipped beam, driving lights, braided brake lines and horn.

Maybe I ought to tell the insurance? Just wonder if they’d be ok with the HID though, as they aren’t truly legal as an aftermarket fitting.

By the way, if everything needs to be stated, then in the SV is the belly pan and hugger standard? They are usually aftermarket parts too. Also, looks like a fender extender and crash bungs.

Nice exhausts though, I've got Fuel cans on mine and they sound great with baffles in and really nice with them out - not too anti-social, just nice and beefy.

    good advice......

i also never bothered but this time took your advice and declared..

    tinted screen
    crash bobbins
    rear hugger
    fender extender
    tail tidy
    exhaust
    belly pan
    clear indicator lenses on front.

not one penny more to insure and its all covered and legal.....if i get it..

i was told if it costs less than £300 for the can and its road legal its free to add to my
insurance...(your insurance Co. may be diff though)

Heres a tip fpr you, worked 3 times for me so far,
Insurance company asks any modfifications? I say not bought it yet but no I dont think so
I then buy the bike, do what im doing to it, can dynojet kit, rear sets whatever.....then I ring up the insurance company. I tehn tell them that there are in fact a few non standard parts and then explain them, twice the insrance companys just said OK well thanks for informing us and they updated the policy to reflect, one other time, think it was zenith insurance said OK well your premium will increase by £70 so I said OK can I cancel the policy then please as im not happy with that. They said I'll just check with my manager thats the case,2 mins later she comes back and says actually its OK we can update the policy and there will be no exra charge. Wankers

How about if you don't know all the mods? Seen a Bandit streetfighter I like but the mods are endless! Are there any insurance companies that would specialise in that line?
