Attention Fifa to give goal-line tech a shot

Fifa to give goal-line tech a shot

Fifa is to kick off tests of ten systems for goal-line technology next week, avid footie fans will be relieved to hear.
The results of the tech tests will be presented to the International Football Association Board (IFAB) when it meets in March for its annual review of the sport's laws.
Systems to sense whether a goal has been scored or not, including a micro-chipped ball, have been developed and suggested before, particularly after high-profile blunders such as the Roy Caroll ball-drop in 2005.

The Adidas Teamgeist II features an embedded microchip

However, Fifa President Sepp Blatter remains a self-confessed advocate for human judgement, and last year the IFAB initially concluded that the development of goal-line technology would not be pursued.
But since the debacle of the disallowed England goal at the 2010 World Cup, and public requests for goal-line technology to be adressed, Fifa promised to re-consider the technology.
In October 2010, the IFAB insisted any technology must be able to come to a decision within one second. Next weeks tests will show whether this is possible.
Other topics to be raised include banning the infamous snood on the grounds of heath and safety, and the possibility of giving referees "vanishing spray" to mark where defensive walls should stand. ®

I think the hawkeye that they used in tennis would be the best, that is if I was in agreement for it to go ahead, which im not. I think they should leave it alone.

All they need is a camera in each corner of the woodwork and at the bottom of the posts... Give the 4th ref an iPad and let him make the decisions...

Why would it change? As questions in decisions and questionable comments against authority raise monetary fines.

The over analysing and lecturing of a refs decision with stopping of play to get the correct decision is a "greasy pole."

Some guy on here played Cloughies vid of what he thought. No wonder he went to drink. cunts who have no idea of football influencing and controlling the game.

    Final thought

WTF is Giggs doing! looked fitter than he did at 30. controlling the game and ran the game against Villa. The man is a god!

Giggs doesn't need pace, tricks or stamina... He can obviously see the future...

I read a bit more about this and it turns out they're testing 10 different companies' systems... There could be chips in balls, hawkeye, video cameras...

Pretty sure Fifa won't go with any technology that uses video replay technology though... If they use replay technology for seeing if the ball crossed the goal line then why not use the same technology to see if it crossed the side-line... Who knows where it will lead, could they use it to see if a striker has crossed the defensive line and is offside? Could it be used to see if a player dived or was fouled? It'll set the ball rolling down the path of full video replays which Fifa have always opposed...

My guess is that if they do decide to go for some sort of goal line technology it will be something that cannot be used in other areas of the game such as the 'chip in a ball' technology...

    I can see it now......

Big flashing light on top of the goals and a big siren when the ball passes the line.........

Now where have I seen this before?

I think goal line tech will come into Play through whatever way FIFA picks which is a good thing, but will only come into play to begin with in world competitive competition

    World cup only

Only then with the biggest tournament on the planet can FIFA be scrutinised, hopefully through this FIFA can move the goal posts to still stay credible to the game of football
