Agree with Detector, if your up for renting a server i'm willing to contribute mate as i'd imagine a few people would be! Beta is out in Sept!

    @Blaggard

Not really, sure if you want to run the game @ 1920 x 1080 at 120FPS then yeah you will.

    I ran the Alpha on a Duel Core with a 6770 and still got 35fps @ 1920 x 1080
When he dropped it down to 1280 x 720 he was getting a steady 55fps.

The human eye can barely tell the difference with anything above 30fps

Det kindly sold me his ATI HD 5770 and I have overclocked my quadcore to 3.0GHz. It should run it okay, although not at the highest graphics settings.
Do you reckon there would be much of a performance increase if I bung in an SSD drive and install the game on that?

I would Imagine you would be able to squeeze out a few extra FPS mate but might not make a large difference, what drive do you have just now? A small indication of how good your drive is shown in the windows scoring index. Anything around 5.9 and above is a good rating for Non Raid or SSD's mate

Not sure if the following is going to put the plans for a dedicated DF game server out of the windows:

    http://www.vg247.com/2011/08/24/dice...field-3-on-pc/

DICE’s Mikael Kalms has explained over on the EA forums why the company will not allow for the use of home servers with Battlefield 3.

According to Kalms’ post on the game servers, the decision to only allow Ranked Server Provider companies to run a server, is due to the ease of providing support.
“The game server machines themselves will be run by a number of Ranked Server Provider (RSP) companies,” he said. “We do not allow other companies to run game servers, or for other people to run game servers from home.
“We try to strike a balance where there are game servers available across the globe, while still keeping the number of RSPs at a level where we can offer reasonable support to each individual company. Since we prefer to work with larger hosting companies, and we focus on countries where we have a larger player base, there will not be game servers available in every country on the planet.”
The list of RSPs which will run BF3 game servers at launch is not ready yet. Once all is in place, and announcement will be made.
If you follow the link, you will be privy to information regarding Ranked vs Unranked, server administrators, third party anti-cheat organizations and more.
Battlefield 3 is out in October for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360

5.9 for HDD. So should be okay. I preordered the xbox version from Tesco when they had a discount code. Now PC version is full whack - should be cheaper closer to launch.

Should be ok ZX7R :-) It's worth Noting ZX7R that people who order it from Origion get all the DLC most places are ordering plus 48hour early access to the beta in September

The eye doesn't have a refresh rate, it simply responds to change in a scene

Sounds good but it's at 40 quid, for PC. Plus I do not get any physical media - EA are taking the piss at that price for download only.

Personally I've seen the Alpha running @ both and didnt notice a difference until the 30fps machine bottlenecked and you could but that was to do with the processor.

@Detector - Will the DF server be Ranked or Unranked?

24 frames/second is how the eye works which is the reason for movie shutter speed being just that. Or put more correctly the lowest speed the eye can detect less than smooth transition is 24 frames. Above that the best "frame rate" will depend on technical factors relating to the kind of format used but blur will be because of images NOT resolving in an individual frame. The very word frame is taken from photographic filming/projecting.

Fook it. Xbox 360 preorder cancelled and I went for the 40 quid preorder on origin.
If the PC struggles then I will use it as am excuse to build a new PC.

    Thanks to ZX7R
