Wooohoooo think I fixed my win64 problem - used USBDeview and deleted all the USB device it listed - obviously my mouse and keyboard went off because they are USB - pressed the power button on the PC and let it shut down. After rebooting it spent a few mins reinstalling all the usb drivers and after another reboot I plugged the I-Odd drive in and it recognised it and installed drivers for it first time with no problems - works fine now in all 3 modes

Mine behaved like that on my win7 pro x64 laptop but when transferring large files across it would all lock up. Hopefully yours is sorted though mate! I will be returning mine tomorrow and hopefully have it replaced with a zalman, although as long as it works I don't mind which one they send.

I had an email from their technician who received my return and tested it, it works fine in all OSes other then Windows 7 apparently. They thought that perhaps Windows 7 limits or disconnects power to the USB port for some reason. They tried it with a variety of HDDs and USB cables. They are sending me out a replacement so hopefully mine was a one off dodgy unit.

Glad to hear it - any idea if you're getting and I-Odd or Zalman replacement?

Has anyone tried using the eSATA for transfers? When I connect the eSATA and USB (required to power the drive) the HDD shows as eSATA mode but none of my PCs recognise the HDD as being connected.

I have a customers PC on the bench at the moment with an ESATA port but like a twat I've misplaced my eSATA cable. I'll have a hunt around and test it out later

Sorry forgot to check the eSATA connection the other day.
    Just tested it now though.

PC tested on is a Dell Studio XPS 8100 Running Windows 7 64bit.

Plugged in the eSATA Cable and the USB cable (Just the extension bit of it).
The drive showed eSATA mode on the screen.
The PC didn't detect the drive though and the Found New Hardware wizard didn't run.
Went into Device Manager and clicked Scan For New Hardware. It found the drive straight away.
Checked in My Computer and the drive was there and it was fully accessible.

The Iodd still said eSATA mode on the screen and the switch at the side did not do anything.

So yes eSATA works for me but you have to manually scan for new hardware to pick the drive up. When using eSATA it only works as a normal drive.

I will test again when i get another PC with eSATA to see if it is the same.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks to x_Mr_C_x

Bouncing an old thread here but I had a load of physical servers to build today so ordered one of the Zalman ZM-VE200s from Amazon to speed things up. It turned up today and I was up and running within minutes - it's an awesome bit of kit!

Will save me a fortune in blank disks too so thanks again - remembered reading this last year which was why I bought one - just wish I'd gotten one sooner, although it did only cost me 23 quid from Amazon so in a way it's probably best I forgot until now

I thought my iodd one died the other day, it was locked on a single disc image and wouldn't do anything, I tried all sorts and eventually got it working by updating the FW. The zalman took over iodd so you can use zalman FW as long as its for the correct device.

From memory I needed to use iodd lover tool to change the serial number (or another identification number) and that then let me select the new FW image from the iso folder and it did an internal update. I thought it was a lost cause and was going to get the usb3 version.

In many cases (but not all as some mobos won't boot to the drive) you can save the need to carry around a CD wallet as the drive can emulate an optical disk drive and mount ISO images as if they were physical disks. Handy so you can carry hundreds of OS CDs, Live CDs etc. in one small drive but also handy to carry discs you use regularly to use once booted into your OS. For example you could have a 2CD install of an app which needs to be installed on several machines, you install CD 1, hot switch to CD 2 and continue. Also handy for installing stuff on servers, HTPCs, netbooks etc. where there is no disc drive.

Brilliant idea, only flaw is they will not work on all machines as a boot media so I still have to have my CD wallet in the car just in case.

    Thanks to evilsatan
