New liteon laser only reading cds ?

Hi guys just got a new laser from modtraders and removed the solder blob but it will only play cds ? ive checked the pod reading and it was 4.5 so lowered it to 3.2 but still no joy any ideas ?

i had a laser like this couple of years back and turned out to be a dodgy laser.. dunno if its the same in your case, could just be a faulty unit from modtraders???? mine also didnt care wot i adjusted the pot to it would not read dvd's.... just me 2p

I recently fitted 2, the first worked first time, the second I had to reduce the resistance down to about 2.8, then it was fine.
I'm not sure of the quality of these lasers, all the 360 ones I've had come with a lower than normal resistance, and 2 I've had to lower more to get working
I've also fitted 3 ps3 lasers, 2 went in about a week, the 3rd has just gone after 3 months,
I'd like to know if anyone has a source for reliable lasers.

Yeah thats the reason i bought um from modtraders as read a few comments about ones from ebay not working , i even went out and bought a multi tester after reading another post on here and the laser was 4.2 adjusted it to 3.2 but no joy and using verbs , spent a few hrs adjusting then gave up .
