Need a new monitor, but which one?

Hey,

I need a new monitor, but not sure which one?

I need it to be 1080P via HDMI, 3D ready is a bonus but it will be a dual screen setup as I will be purchasing two at the same time.

Both monitors are going on the Ergotron Ds100 Dual-monitor stand that I will be buying at the same time.

No fixed budget in mind. What are your recommendations?

You have 2 options really, affordable TFT or expensive IPS.

If you want to do photo or video editing semi/professionally then IPS is a good idea, but otherwise a high end TFT will do.

Choose a model you like the look of and google it, you will usually find a review which tells you how good it is and of alternatives in the same price bracket.

Whats an IPS monitor? Never heard of it.

I'm starting graphics at uni so need to have a look by the sound of it

I cant really vouch for the info here, I was looking into getting an S-IPS monitor a few years ago and gave up trying to find one under 600 quid, but I think they are slightly more affordable now. I know some of the apple cinema screens use the same technology and while very fucking expensive, they are fantastic screens.

I picked up one of them whilst they were at £198, Crystal Clear monitor perfect for detailed use, also the added bonus of a touchscreen.

I did a quick google and apparently the H model is better, although I dont know what the difference is

8ms is an ok refresh rate, the benefits you get in image quality of IPS will outweigh the negatives of the slightly slow refresh rate.I'd happy exchange my my 2ms LCD screen for an IPS.

was lookin at screen again earlier and a 24inch dell is quite highly rated

For Graphic/Photo work, I believe the new Asus 10bit color range monitors are now the monitors of choice. Forget what they are called though, but the picture is supposed to be a different class, even to the 8 bit Dell IPS panels.
