Desire has GPS built in.. menu-settings-location.

I use Co-Pilot Live v8 with the built in GPS.
Desire is all ya need chap. As mentioned use Google maps always up to date , accurate n download s the voice guidance , applanet has others but why waste the space .

I prefer tomtom but Google navigation is the 2nd best satnav I've used. The traffic view is good when on motorways as you can see where the jams are and stop for a pee before the next big jam
Am I correct in saying these are free to use? Ie no data transfer mean no charging to your account.

Its free but will use data so it'll come off your allowance. Google navigation doesn't use much data though and if you plan your route on wifi it will cache the route to use less data. I've used it on a 200mile trip and its only used a couple of MB so I wouldn't worry about it.
google navigation is excellent on the desire, I would recommend the genuine HTC car charger though, about £11 on fleebay, dont bother with cheapo ones they wont hold the charge let alone charge the phone when sat nav is running.
This is the seller i bought from: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
getting a bit confused, lol.
i don`t have a data plan so don`t want anything that will cost money. does the co-pilot 8 use data ? or is it stored on the card like tomtom ?
cheers

From what I can work out, the apps DL the map for the UK etc. (I did this via wifi) and then use GPS to update your route as it changes, but the map is on the device already so it can calculate and show location as you move without data (I think lol)
I DL'd a copy of igo 8 other day I found elsewhere and used that for a while, hasn't used any data either.

Co-Pilot 8 doesnt use any data as the maps are stored on the SD card.
Also O2 charge a Max of £1 a day data so if you only used it for special trips its not going to cost the earth. I was amazed how little data Google maps actually uses.
I never mentioned if I had tried the "supplied system" or not.
I am entitled to use whatever system I want to use and I prefer to use Co-Pilot as I find it very easy to use and better for me.
The OP was asking if a certain sat nav would work on his Desire and I offered an alternative and one that has no data usage at all.
