But my parents is running very, very slow. What is the best way to scan for spyware. Last time I needed to Spybot and adaware were the programs to run.

Get Malwarebytes, its free, install, update, do a quick scan, if nothing found do a full scan, failing that you may need a trojan remover.
Also get Ccleaner, again free, it will delete useless files that windows does'nt, also scan the registry with it after cleaning.
I agree to use malwarebytes but if this is a one off scan then use the full scan, the quick scan should only be used if you scan regularly. For monthly/one-off maintenance the full scan will provide peace of mind. Malwarebytes will not find all nasties but if you are not experiencing any symptoms then it's pretty safe to assume you are clean if malwarebytes finds nothing.
