HTC Desire stuck on welcome screen

Wife ran an update on her phone (over wifi). it rebooted a couple of times and then just sat on the O2 welcome screen.

don't have an android phone myself so am a little lost as what to do.

I've removed the battery to turn it off & restarted it with the - vol button down to get the root menu and tried rebooting and rebooting bootloader, but nothing happens, and recovery just gets a screen showing a red triangle with an exclamation mark.... what should I do? is there any way of saving the info (contacts, calander etc.) before doing a factory reset?

Are the contacts saved to phone , sim of Google account? Google account will auto sync contacts back , sim speaks for itself, not sure about calander .

Not sure what's gone wrong with your update . Hopefully u can sort it mate.

My contacts and calendar entries are stored on my google account. I'd check online that the calendar is stored on her google account first. Have you tried to clear the cache and restore to factory settings? Mines rooted so i'm not sure what the default options are on a standard Desire.

Cleared the cache & reset to factory default, but it's still freezing on the o2 welcome screen. Taking it back to the shop....
