Anyone Know What Pointsec PC Does ?

Logged onto the works pc and this dos box came up informing me that the pc needed to update. So i let it do the bells and whistles. Now the login screen has slightly changed and pointsec pc is there running some processes. Ive looked at the website but dont really mean much to me.

Is this just more security the council are useing as it seems daft. At the bottom left of my work screen i got

Mcafee, Securelogin, pointsec, mcafeeDLP, Novel Services, Remote management & Novell Client Trust.

No bloody wonder ive lost alot of bandwidth

Is that the whole / full disk encryption possibly - are you on a laptop?

Yes its desktop/laptop encryption program. It will take quite a while to encrypt the hard drive.

If there is any bad sectors or anything on the HDD then in my experiences Pointsec will fail to load thus leaving you with a encrypted HDD which you cannot do anything with even recover files etc.

Cant use ERD.. cant even boot anything.

Also if you want to remove it it has to decrypt itself which takes sometimes days.

Seems a bit overkill to have Pointsec installed on a desktop. I thought the new version of Pointsec was called Checkpoint as well?

it is but probably an old version.. I would of thought it was laptop only really.. doesn't sound like he logs in to it either?

We used to use it here for encryption of laptops, thankfully it got fucked off.

Our work PC's ( at HPES ) used to be all on Pointsec, but we migrated over to Mcafee encryption, and what a fuck about that was, loads of people lost their entire drives and had to do a full rebuild.
