I use avast its free and does not seem to hog resources like the big brand names. Plus I like it when my laptop screams at me that my virus updates have been done.

I think that you will find that here on DF there is a big lean towards Microsoft Security Essentials (free) and Malwarebytes. I uninstalled Norton from my new laptop and McAfee from my home pc and plumped for MSE and Malwarebytes instead.

Both seem to be performing nicely. I do seem to be hit by Worms with alarming regularity...but they are getting stopped and removed which is all that matters really.

AVG Free, never used anything else well in the last 5 year anyway and not a single virus
Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
    creatures”

I'll 2nd that, it was actually after relying on avg that made me try a paid for security app, i have to admit kaspersky has never let me down!

Microsoft Security Essentials all the way, it's free, uses little system resources on most half decent machines, you can tell it what percentage of the CPU it can use and only to work when system is idle.

AVG free is bloated, Avast is decent but I don't like the fact you have to register even though it is free. MSE you just install and that's that.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to scan for an infection once a month or if you think you have a virus.

Another vote for Microsoft Security Essentials.

I don't like the page pre fetch of AVG and I gave up Norton once it got beyond 2 1.44 floppy disks.

Back in the day there use to be a floppy called magic bullet.. It did what it said on the tin..
