Xbox 360 Howto: Update your jtag to the latest freeboot

Quick and easy, no original nand dump needed.

People having issues with bigblock jaspers - will report this to sneakypeanut

    1. Boot box into xellous with eject button while connected to same network as PC <-- Does not show with HDMI - only component/composite/VGA (thanks omgporn)
    2. Open Easy Freeboot 5.12, options tab, tick 'build from xellous'
    3. Click 'create freeboot image' put in the IP address from the box, save somewhere
    3. Copy the newly created 'updflash.bin' to root of usb stick
    4. Reboot box into xellous again with usb stick connected (any port)
    5. Wait for it to flash new image
    6. turn off, unplug power for 30 seconds, turn on
    7. DONE!

    Recommended Extras:

Install the official update to get the avtatar files (otherwise games that use the avatar assets will prompt to update)
    http://www.xbox.com/system-update-cd

    Install dashlaunch 2.21

    Well, I say that!

Just tried this with two different USB sticks that I know work with the 360, and it picks them up when booting (new USB device found at....) but no flash happens.

    I've tried "Updflash.bin" and "updflash.bin"

Also tried all 3 USB ports...am wondering if I have xell and not xellous...but then would sneakypeanuts thing work (which it did, perfectly).

    Any ideas?

    should be updflash.bin

try booting your console to normal dash - make sure the usb is recognised then reboot to xellous and try again

also try the usb port on the back of the 360

    Reboot?
You mean power off, press eject to boot?

Just checking I'm not missing some reboot to xellous thing

    edit:

USB is recognised in normal dash, no problem.

    In xellous I see:
USB device connected to bus 1 hub 1 port 1
USB bus 1 device 2 vendor: 045E product 0291 class FF: Not found.

Sometimes you need to remove the power connector from the back of the 360 for a few seconds and then boot into xellous with USB key connected and it should pick up update

fanni you genius, that was it!
Unplugged power from the back for 5secs, put in USB stick, put power back in, booted to xellous and picked it up straight away!

Bag of sweets for that man!

edit: FFS gotta do avatar update again...I don;t even use the things, they just look nice!

hmm, I had the same issue with Xellous not picking up my USB. Had to use a DVDR to update mine (dash was fubar'd and wouldn't boot to it). Wouldn't mind a link to the official update (I use Divx on this offline machine and they messed it up without the Avatar update on 12611)

I will give mine a go tonight. Looks like its a lot easier than I expected, I thought I would be hooking it up to the pc again for the nand flashing.

I can't get this to work on a Jasper BB (512). All goes fine with the reading of the nand from Xellous but when the dos window pops up i get a unable to read nand error.

Here is a link to the official 12625 update: http://www.xbox.com/system-update-cd
Wasn't working last night when I tried, but seems fine now.

    Is it definitely v5.12 ?
I have managed to find 5.10 and ran it through to create my update file, but did not flash it incase v5.12 fixes some bug thats important.
I couldn't find any version of it on xbins !
