Default Recommend a 24 gigabit switch

    Hi guys

Looking for a 24 port switch, i know its a little overkill but i'll be attaching at least 18 ports and the rest is future proof.

Looking around i would like a 'green' one so that it detects if anything is connected to it and reduces the power accordantly.

Not really sure of makes but have a 5 port and 8 port gigabit now and these are tp-link and netgear and not had issues with either of them

    Considering this one

    TP-Link 24-Port Gigabit Switch in 1U 19-inch Rack-Mountable Steel Case: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31FEFHA-6IL.@@AMEPARAM@@31FEFHA-6IL

    Any advice/suggestions would be great

    Thanks

Linksys/cisco SLM2024 - I've got the 8 port and it does the job fine but the gui can be a little slow. SRW range has gone end of life, bargains can be found here and there, guessing the one you want from that range is SRW2024 but check whether it has poe (and whether you need it).

I've got a couple of the Dell 2716's - they've been bang on but looking at the price of that one on Amazon if you're not bothered about management that's a good price for something with a warranty too!

Yeah, poe is only for that kinda stuff - we sometime use at work for voip phones. The only reason I mentioned it is that we have a few SRW248G4's at work that do have poe, but poe seems to double the cost.

Just noticed both are around twice the price of the tp link - the ciscos can have ports turned off, haven't got a clue about likely power savings, but I'm guessing there will be other devices with a lower power draw.

If it's any help I can get you screenshots of the srw248g4 and slm2008 guis.

Just means you can control what each port is doing, ie up / down, what speed etc, assign a different VLAN, look at performance stats etc whereas an unmanaged switch is totally plug and play, but you don't have any control over what the switch does itself.

    hi mate,

i run my home network with one of these:

D-Link DGS-1224T Green Ethernet Gigabit Smart Switch
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=717
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/60007

been a great switch and has done everything i need it to do and more, 24 port and does support POE but not something i have used it for so cant comment, i paid £155 for mine but they seem to have gone up in price a little
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.
