Guns don't kill people rappers do, I'm a fucking rapper and I might kill you.
Mate, did you listen to what he said? ICT is all well and good at teaching kids Office etc, but it doesn't teach them programming. Its not meant to. ICT is today's equivalent of typing, though boys do more of it too, don't remember any boys at my school doing typing.
I have to put on my ultranerd hat and say how ANYONE can call David Braben a bell end is totally beyond me! The man is a gaming genius, and quite clearly trying to do something good here.
This does look good and does have potential. However I do agree that ICT in schools these days is more about access then programming. I did higher computing (Scottish equivilent to A-Levels) back in 2004 and we were tought programming, about RAM & ROM, how computers work, etc.
However I have only just found out why we were tought those things, but other schools were not (in Aberdeenshire at least). Turns out that a few years ago the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) revamped the WHOLE computing/ICT course and the basic ICT one with Acess/databases and the current gibberish they teach was well planned and executed, however the actual computing course that tought you programming, internal workings of PC's, how processors worked, etc was a total shambles. Luckily for me, my computing teacher who was head of the dept and my secondary school was the ONLY one in the whole of Aberdeenshire to teach the proper computing course, because he believed that even though it was going to take him a lot of work and effort to get it right, it was a better course to teach than the basic ICT course.
I only just found this out the other day because I was speaking to a guy who actually used to work as a computing teacher in Aberdeenshire and he knew my old computing teacher. I have seen the stuff they cover in "ICT" and it is bollox, just how to use office basically. I am SO glad my old computing teacher was a purist who did not want to comprimise and tought us the proper stuff.
Anyway, I'm going a bit off topic. This should be good though for kids who want to learn about actual computing, and not just ICT.
I think it's going to be good to set up small servers in the home!
Low power file server or the likes!
I will certainly be buying one and giving one.

There is a video on Youtube of this device playing x264 1080p video, if you could get XBMC running on this it would be a cracking bit of kit for the money
Looks like it will be next year before these go on sale, according to the site they have a few board to auction off.
Support the UK computing industry and buy one of these when they come out! At this price it's a drop in the ocean to buy one or two pieces but could be the start of the UK getting back on top. I'm gonna buy one just to put on my desk at work
It's the future!

XBMC running on Raspberry Pi
We wanted to keep the fact that XBMC is running beautifully on Raspberry Pi at least moderately quiet until Gimli and Davilla from XBMC had unveiled their demo at Scale 10x this weekend. Now they have done, so we can all talk about it: here’s some video showing how you can use your Raspberry Pi as a media centre. A $25/$35 media centre the size of a pack of playing cards.
You’ll be able to download the XBMC source tree, but we will probably also offer some binaries to make things easier for you – I’m also looking at getting it put in our default root file system if at all possible.
Raspbmc announced: an XBMC for Raspberry PiWe’ve just seen an announcement via Stm Labs saying that www.raspbmc.com will be going live (I’ll add a link when the site is up) very soon; Head over there to read about some of the features that’ll be incorporated; it looks like the developers are answering questions in the post comments there too, so drop in on them before they’re worn out!
(I should point out that we’re not going to be able to answer any other than the most general of questions about Raspbmc here – the Raspberry Pi team isn’t involved in developing Raspbmc, but we’re just as excited about it as you are.)
Update: there was a bit of confusion on our part about exactly who was behind this distro; turns out that Stm labs are not working with the official XBMC team, but this is still great news, and we’re looking forward to seeing the results. Here’s an email from XBMC:Thanks for the enthusiasm regarding XBMC on the pi! Though, please be
aware the XBMC team is not involved with Raspbmc (it came as news to
most of us). Obviously we appreciate the help and wish them the best,
but we don’t want anyone to be confused about who’s doing what. The
XBMC team works on the application, then projects like OpenElec,
CrystalBuntu, Raspbmc package them up into various distributions. It’s
all one big happy ecosystem, but different groups of devs can
obviously only support certain things.
Would appreciate if you could change the first sentence and title to
clarify that XBMC team will be working to improve the experience on
the rPi, and that various distros like raspbmc will give you choices
for how to deploy it, but we’re not the same organizations.

Same here... Once this is out I will be buying a few for experiments

get you alarms set for tomorrow @ 6.00am and look here http://www.raspberrypi.org/
Chances slim on first batch I reckon but I will be trying to grab one of these.
More excited about this that I am of the iPad 3 7th March announcement.

oooooh very intrested in getting one of these
to me if it can run xbmc at 1080p for £25 it looks like my old xbox1's will be replaced pretty quickly and more than likely so will the atv2
Think my atv2 will be getting a rest too..
Anyone know if a blackberry phone charger could be used for the model b?
