    Depends on a few things.

How long do you want them to shoot for - the whole day including reception or just up to the wedding breakfast?

Some will down evening studio which will add cost.

What do you want included in the package? You can range from no prints at all and everything you want is extra all the way up to a package including photobooks or even the digital rights to the images.

Finally a photographer just starting out is likely to charge a cheaper rate to a well established recommended photog?

the sky is the limit tbh, you will get prices that range from 500 quid to literally a few thousand.

your best bet is to make some general enquiries and then ask to look at their portfolio and ask specfic questions regarding service

My wedding photographer was £650 for the day for that we got all our digital prints an rights as well as a physical proof too.

We where also able to order photo books and other things from him at extra costs.

However one we did look t was quoting us £2500 for a similar package just she was a well known photographer.

So really is just shop about and get someone you and the missis are comfy with.

Remeber some will do it cheap then charge you up the arse for the copyright release so you can't get it printed other than by them.

Cheers Cybollox. Ok where do I begin. I reckon the first and foremost factor in what you pay for wedding photography is how much will you value the photographs from your day. This should determine your budget. If you only want a few snaps of the families and service plus one nice one for the wall then you should be looking in the lower end of the price range. But if you want coverage all day with albums, copyright, e-shoot then start saving.
I think the first thing you should do is make a short list of photographer in your area of ones willing to travel to you. First check out their online portfolio, if it's good either drop them an email to see if they are free. If they are, cool then give them a quick call on the phone just to follow up your email and get a general feel for them as a person, if they can't answer the phone in a polite manner they they will invariably be an arse on your day and that's possibly as bad as taking duff shots. Remember for most the wedding day is something very special and intimate so hiring an arse will ruin what is the best day of your life.If in your mind they pass the phone test make an appointment to go meet then in person and view albums. This is very important. This is where your should gel with your photographer from the word go. If you feel uneasy in a meeting with them then chances are on your day you will be very self concious and the final set of images your presented with will be disappointing. Also actually touching and feel the albums is a huge thing. Anyone can download wedding images and make fake testimonies so make sure you see at least 4 albums and of differing grades of complete weddings. Then it will be down to you and your wife to be to make the final call. If you only have £500 but love the guy who's £1.5k for everything, see if he can do you a deal. And don't for one minute think Uncle Bob who is handy with a camera will save us some money. I have seen too many this season already go horribly wrong.
When you are in the meeting there's a few things you should be asking your potential photographer.
    1. What is they are ill? Will I have a photographer
    2. Back up equipment> What's the plan if any of his equipment fails?
    3. How are the image stored? Onsite? Offsite? NAS? Or. Storage of images is a huge deal for me.
    4. How long from our wedding day before we see the images?
    5. Are you insured?
    6. How will you dress?

I could go on the list is huge but those are the main ones I get asked.

Have a nose around my site, all my prices are there. I am middle to upper end for my area. Also if you want me to give honest advice on any particular photographer then I'll be more than happy to. And if I am free on your date I would be more than willing to travel to you providing costs are covered.

What Wingnut says is about spot on.

There is no cheap option with something like this because it is not cheap being a wedding photographer. People think that we make a fortune doing it but the reality is that it is a lot of work for not a huge amount of money.

People do not see the fact that you have to spend about 10k on kit on a rolling replacement basis. Then you have all the insurances and travel etc......

I am now a lead photographer at www.markpearsonphotography.co.uk if you have a look on there we have all our prices and there is loads of information about what to ask any wedding photographer.

Likewise I am happy yo travel to you if y ou want me but also I will offer to come and second to Wingnut if you have him....

Mr Olympia did my wedding for me and did an absolutely brilliant job. He took pics with the wife and bridesmaids before they left the hotel, the meal, speeches and everything in between.

We were made up with it and extremely grateful and touched by one of the greatest acts of kindness we've ever recieved. He really made the day for us.

lol...t'was a good day and was my pleasure.

However, everytime time I do think of Russ's wedding day I must admit I feel a little relieved we didn't get hit with a bill for a few grand after what his new wife did to a £75000.00 lamborghini...

Good feature about poor wedding photography on "the one show" now. It's at the start of the show, for iPlayer purposes.
