Far better to be running lots of formats natively than transcoding or having to convert, just not worth the aggravation when a cheap Revo does all the formats I've tried with H264 at 1080p/24 running about 8-9% processor hit.

I plugged in a USB with 1 x avi movie on it and it played fine. I plugged in a WD 500GB hdd and the TV couldn't find the drive (loads of different file types on the drive).
My other concern with only using the USB port is sound. If the USB is in the TV, how would i get sound through my surround sound kit?
I think my best bet is the WDTV Live Hub 1TB set up. This way i can copy all my media to the drive, hook up the system to my TV whilst running the audio from the WD Live Hub direct to my surround sound set up.
Does that sound right?!
Yes thats spot on just transfer audio through optical or hdmi depending on your setup

My Samsung LE40C530 plays off my NTFS WD Passport drive no problems. Does MKV too.
