Not a lot of activity in this forum in the past year!

I've been asked to improve the quality some CD Covers and add them to a website at 1000 x 1000.

I have no problem using Photoshop usually and most questions are answered by Google when I work with it. But this time, it's not covered too well.

When you look closely they look like what I can only describe as a magazine scan, you can see a pattern in the picture, I'm guessing to save ink?

How can I improve these scans with filters in Photoshop or other software?

I've tried Surface Blur, but cannot seem to get the best balance as I do not quite understand the difference between Radius and Threshold! Also tried Posterizing them, but again, cannot work out the settings.

Next stop - Photoshop for Dummies!

Any tips would be HUGELY appreciated.

If this is in the wrong place, please move it, I just was not too sure...

I think the problem is you are getting a moire pattern from the halftone in the original print.

If you do a search on removing moire patterns or wording similar you should find some helpful articles.

Can you up a sample of the problem mate.. I've sometimes found that scanning some images on a higher res than needed can cause issues in reproduction.

Could also depend on the scanners native ability to scan V it's interpolation.

If your scanner has a descreen function then use it (probably at 133 / 150 lpi)

If not then the despeckle filter in Photoshop does a pretty decent job

gaussian blur should sort it if its those little circle type effects you get with mass produced print like CD covers.

Wrath of Bod has nailed it.

Some are better than others, but compared to these days the 80's ad 90's CD Covers are pretty crap!

    Here's a comparison of what I mean...

Clicking them and zooming will give a better idea.
I know technology back then was nowhere near as good - but surely they can be doctored now - no?
