Had to reboot 8 times during the last month.

VM CS asked me to monitor the drops offs after I called to tell them about it. I will call again with the results, but am not expecting anything to be done.

i even had a engineer out yesterday who advised this will not happen but 4hrs later it drops off....spoke to there tech team who advised who made me change the channel on the modem/router and should not have a issue but once again it last a couple of hrs...

spoke to a techie this morning who made me laugh by saying changing the network name and password will sort the problem out....what a fookin joke..

anyway think i will drop back down to 10mb as never had any issues over the past 6yrs+

I had this... disabling flood detection and dropping the rate to 145mbps did the trick for me.

Go to Wireless Settings and then look for 802.11 mode. Now select 145mbs from the drop down box.

Pile of shite this superhub like, can't wait for bridge mode as promised in the next firmware.

Range on them is fucking shite though. I've had the dropouts these past few days so they're probably dicking about with it again?
The latest firmware ( V5.5.2R26 ) did away with the flood protection and firewall issues and it works for me, but I've had to move it from the lounge to the kitchen in the middle of the house because if you were in one of the back upstairs rooms it'd lose signal completely. I get the same strength signal to my iPad and iPhone that I get from my next door but one's router..The gigabit ports are great and streaming through it it spot on but it's wireless range is utter pants.
The Vermin Media staff that have been sent to set up shop and all but taken over on Cable Forum will have you believe it is a thing of wondrous glory and you're just wrong, full stop.

The wireless part of the Superdud is shite.
I ended up buying a range extender, configuring it as an access point, and disabling the radio in the Superdud.

This has been going on for months, My brother had problems so when mine arrived it went straight into the cupboard!
None of the promised firmware fixes have worked so I stopped monitoring the situation and am sticking with my 50meg modem and existing DIR655 (I don't use the supplied router either!)

I must be one of the lucky ones.

Had it installed for the past 4-5 months, get full wireless signal throughout the house and back garden and no drop-outs.

No support for DynDNS is a pain though, that's my only criticism really.

Could you not just plug your modem into your desired router and eliminate the virgin box completely?

Alternatively Pegasus' solution of using the virgin box for wired access only and using another access point should sort your issue.

Either that or if you really feel up to it, virgin are knowingly supplying you faulty goods. Sale of Goods act mentions refund, repair, and I believe remedy of the situtation which would be a new router billed to virgin (and for them to then waive any reservation about you using the non virgin router). Also they would probably be in breach of contract as they were contracted to supply an item to you to perform a service when they were in full knowledge the device is not capable of performing as advertised.

Don't bother unless you are really up for a fight though, I just gave up on virgin instead (for other issues). Computers also seem to be funny where the law is concerned, otherwise we could have all claimed refunds on every copy of windows we have ever bought.

Thing is, the Shub IS the modem AND the router and once it's activated your existing kit (generally) is supposed to be disabled.
Of course there are those that have managed to have their older kit reinstate or have existing kit remain active, but generally once you activate the Shub, that's your modem and your router in one.
I much preferred my old VM modem and Netgear router but had to have the Shub when I upgraded to 30mb - admittedly I was pleased at the prospect until it dawned on me how bobbins the wif-fi is.
I believe you used to be able to disable the radio on the Shub and use it as a modem only if you telnet'd into it but a recent firmware put paid to that?
There is the DMZ way and double natting but it's all a bit convoluted for what should really just *work*.

I've not really found double natting to be as much as a problem as some people make out. Only headache I had was to have to enter each port forward on both routers.

    Agreed, not optimal/elegant though.

I never activated mine thank God but my Brother did, he was able to get his old modem reactivated when the SH proved to be a pile of shite.

True. I must admit it's been something I've considered but since they said the bridge mode for the Shub should be 'along any time soon' I've kinda resorted to waiting around for that.

I did mention this to CS once but they insisted my existing kit didn't support DOCSIS3, 30MB and potential future upgrades, which I suppose is a fair point. Catch 22 really. I could have kept the old modem but they wouldn't activate the 30mb upgrade on it.
