    Default Jogging

I have been mulling over the idea of jogging.
Got up this morning and downloaded the MiCoach app after a friend recommended it (I was toying over the Nike + route).
So went for a 3.5k run earlier and it was actually my back that held me up a couple of times!

My overall plan is to do 10k and I have planned the routes already, however any ideas on the back? Could it be the trainers (I am going to buy some proper running shoes tomorrow).
I do suffer with the back, ever since I was ploughed into at 70mph about 7 years ago on the M1... I am hoping this will go at some point!

I am impressed with the MiCoach app, keeps giving you updates along and tells you to speed up/slow down etc... There are heart rate bands etc.. you can buy for it also, but I will see how I get on first!

    Baby steps...

Running shoes are VERY important. I use to struggle to do 2 miles without my ankles going ape shit. Go to a proper running shop, they will put you on a treadmill and check your jogging posture and advise on the best shoes to get.

Yeah, planning to get some today. There is a specialist shop near the office (so not a JD Sports or Footlocker!).

Planning on getting up 30 mins early tomorrow to do the same run, hopefully with new shoes. Aching a little today, but they do say no pain no gain!

I will get fit! 10k is the target a few times a week, but I realise I am a long way from that just yet. The immediate plan is 5k and again I envisage a month or two before it is comfortable.

    Have a look here -

    http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx

    I
have to say that the NHS website is coming up with some really good stuff. I do a lot of swimming and trekking (fooking lovely mountains where I live) but I'd like to start running as well.... when I get the time.

I used the "get running" app on my iphone and found it brilliant. It follows the couch to 5k programme, you may be a bit more advanced so you would probobally start around week 3 or 4. It gets you to run for a set time then walk for a set time and keeps repeating for about a 20-30minute session, as the weeks progress the runs get longer and the walks shorter until you should be able to just go out and run 5k. The only problem is it dosen't have a gps run tracker on it but for that i use "Motion X gps" both apps are only 59p each.

First of all are you fat like me? If so try speed walking first.

No not fat, just not fit.

Went for run number 2 at 6:20am this morning. Knocked 5 minutes off the time and my back was fine.
Little twinge in my left ankle but nothing to worry about. Thighs and Quads still a little tender, but to be expected.

My new Adidas Supernova Glide 2 shoes should be here today. A couple of outings in them to break them in and I should be in good shape.
Another week or so and I will step it up to 4.5km / 5km

I will probably keep it at that for a while and gradually introduce 0.5km until I get to 10km

Today walking down steps is the killer. The past two days it was walking up! But getting there

Your back aches could be your general posture.

Also could be down to your core not being strong enough to keep you up right while running. Do you tend to lean forwards?

You should try and book yourself onto a 10k running event in a couple of months time to give you something to work towards. I did a 10k in Bristol last year after 1 training session and it was really good. Managed it in 1 hour flat I always find if i'm running just for the sake of it I lose interest but if you are training for something then its more fun.

What I was going to say. Get on Youtube and look at some core strengthening exercises. I suffered with the same problem but it's much better now. When you feel the pain, as silly as it sounds, try to bring your arse forward and push your pelvis out forward too. This will help with your posture. Pilates is also a very good way of building core strength.

the 10km Run is something I said this morning I will be looking into.

As for the back, I mentioned before how it has never been fully right since the accident. The quaks told me it was the mussles deep inside the back that really cannot be massaged etc... it's all about trying to build them up which is difficult when I don't go to the gym and sit at a desk all day.

I do play golf, lets see if a combination of running and golf can help it.

3rd Outing today, first with new Trainers - Adidas Supernova Glide 2. Got up at 6:20 and was on the road 5 mins later.
The trainers have a compartment for the MiCoach ped0meter, similar to the Nike +

Knocked another minute off my time today on the same route, the going was tough on my feet but that is down to the fact the shoes need to be ran in so that they can mould around your feet for comfort.
I am going to add on 0.5km at the weekend to see how that goes and gradually build it up from there.

It is amazing that after only 3 sessions, I feel much better. Especially as my leg's have stopped aching now.

Got to keep it up!!! £50 for a pair of running shoes is considerably cheaper than joining a Gym and using a stupid treadmill.

Where is a good professional running shop in London to get tested for some trainers?

Goldberg let us know how you get on with your trainers please.

There are a few 'London Marathon' Stores. One in Covent Garden that I went into.

I will be back out on them tomorrow for a 4km run. First go they were a bit strange, but that is because you have to let them mould to your feet.
You feel quite high in them too, it's the shock absorbers in the heels.

Looking forward to tomorrows session! I think I might get addicted to this. I might have only done just over 10km in a week, but it's 10km more than any other week.
I feel better and I am convinced my mid rift is looking better for it also!

I find myself only having 1 beer the night before a run as I want to enjoy it.

    So win win!
