The Pro modder kit that consists the replacement chip is $20
the pcb kit is £37.99 I think,

From what I have read, the pro modder version involves removing a shit load of epoxy resin, removing the flash chip, and soldering a new one in its place. Its all surface mount and not for anyone that's not extremely competant in this type of work. I'm an electronics graduate who's been soldering for 25 years, and I have to say I would be tempted to just pay the extra and get the replacement board....but then I have become somewhat lazy in my old age.

im going try the chip change , i can do it under the microscope at work. apparently nail varnish remover melts the epoxy nicely
if i bugger it up (ie lift a load of tracks) i will just buy a new board as i have already dumped my 0225.
obv id rather not !
but its not a job for the part time solderer as tronads says

last time i went on their i didnt notice any pricing was all, dont like the look of the solder solution but will probably have a go, whats a drive at the end of the day £35 if i fuck it up? worth a go

If you think your skills are up to it buy the kit, if you make a mess buy the replacement board, so long as you dump the ofw from the board first you'll be good to go

I fkn hate epoxy resin, and nothing other than a pyropen gets it off anything like cleanly...and I just cannot be arsed with all that anyomore. Yup, Im paying the extra if I ever need to.

heres a question, could you not cut off the power to the original chip (whatever legs it gets power from) and install the new one over the top? soldering the legs from the new chip to the old one? i have seen this done on bios replacements for older consoles etc.
