In all seriousness there are two draw backs which should be considered by anyone thinking of one...

    1) The screen - the viewing angle is rubbish. If you hit the sweet spot, it's perfect, either side and the contrast goes either too dark or washed out. Stood up in my case is perfect for viewing on a coffee table etc. and the opposite 'wedge' shape is perfect for viewing/typing sat at a desk, but flat on a desk and it looks poor.

    2) The internal memory (the DATA area) is pretty small. This means installing stuff to SD card which can have it's own problems. Something I never run into on the streak as it's 2GB internally (the Vega only has 300MB if you're using the modded stock partitioning).

If you can live with the above issues, you'll absolutely love it. For the £200 (or around £160 s/h) it can't be beaten. Performance is right up there with tablets double it's money.

Loads of people have been talking about the Hannspree Hannspad that ebuyer have sold recently for £150 new on their ebay clearance account, which apparently has a nicer screen, but the community is almost non existent for that.

Oh did I mention that Honeycomb 3.2 release is imminent ? - unofficial of course.

I'm tempted to buy a new one, second hand isn't a whole lot cheaper. The only attraction about second hand is that some have already been flashed with a ROM of some sort. It might still be better for me to get a new one though and brick it myself lol, learning curve and all that.

    I would agree.

And also add that if you work an airport, or are going away, they are £160 New. The Tax free price from Dixons.

It's so easy, I don't believe anyone could mess it up. You install the adb drivers. Open the command prompt. Navigate to the folder and run a batch file. Piece of piss.

Word on the modacco forum is that thye are unbrickable as their is a recovery menu from pressing power and back buttons together. Makes them ideal for trying as many ROM's as you want

They are unbrickable, much like iPhones, the bootloader is hardwired and you can always get to it (called NVflash) to flash from a windows pc

    Hi malty
Can i install this over the last beta or will it need a fresh install?
PS: I edited the post for say that you need to follow the guide step by step... modstock -> data wipe -> vegacomb 3.2. Dont ask for help if you dont follow this steps. This is not a direct update from VegaComb 1.7. Newbe will edit the post asap.

The first question in that thread asks "Just one thing newbe is 3g working in this release?" To which the answer is yes. I didn't think the Vega had 3g or are they talking about using a usb 3g modem?

There are other tabs which have 3g built in which are essentially rebranded Vegas as they run the same roms etc.(viewsonic etc)

There is also 3g dongle support in many of the custom kernels

Ah right, I thought this was exclusively for the Vega, silly me lol.

Have you found USB host mode yet? I'm still reading through all the posts, a few have asked where it is but I've not come across an answer yet.

Oh, and have you changed the DPI to 140 or 120 from 160 like others have? Some have said apps such as kindle and imdb don't work but then once they've changed the dpi to 120 for example they then work.

    Edit: Regarding usb host.

    "Hi,
the hold the back button trick at boot doesn“t work with that kernel.
But we try to implement at the fly changing Slave->Host. But it needs
a little bit more of work.

    rebel1"

Another edit: Oooooo, this wallpaper looks loooovely. I am getting closer to going to PC World today to pick up a Vega!

I'm on 140dpi at the mo, people have been saying 127 is a good value so might try that.

USB host mode is a fairly big deal to me for the Xbox 360 wired pad in emulators so if its too long coming I will revert to my backup of corvus5 that I took before starting.

An interesting side effect I've found also is that diceplayer now plays 720p stuff off a network share perfectly with full hardware acceleration WITH sound.

    Still playing :-)
