    Default Wanting a TVR

    Hi All,

Basically, I'm looking to get a TVR Cerbera. I've chosen this model because it's a 2+2 and I have 2 small children (rather than the 2 seater cars I was looking at).

The problem I have is that my wife is very sensible (as am I really), and she plays the "why do you want one" and "we don't need two cars" card. Thus making it difficult to for me to get a sports car.

Now, I've had a really shitty yeah this year (lost my Dad in May and my Mum has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer) so i'm thinking ( a bit selfishly) that I deserve a treat. We're not short on money so that's not really a problem, but I love my wife and kids to bits and don't want a full blown riot in the house just because I want to tread myself.

I know a lot of you on here well enough to know you'd simply say "fuck it, do it" or "bollocks to what she says" but I'm expecting that from the members who aren't married

Anyone got any iddeas for me justifying my "needs"?

Without too many shitty comments would be good

Simple. Point out the issues you have faced in the last 12 months and point out, if appropriate, that life can take a turn for the worst at any point and that you should be enjoying yourself however you see fit, cash permitting, to the best of your ability. I have had some serious issues the past year and if it has taught me anything it is this.

Nothing wrong with wanting a sports car but if the Mrs isn't 100% behind it then I wouldn't go for the TVR. How do you think she's going to react when it breaks down (again) and you have to keep throwing money at it? Also the 2+2 argument isn't really valid as its a death trap TVR. Do you really want to put your kids in it???

Me being a jap car fan i'd be more tempted by a S2000 instead

    Thanks to liveseytowers

    Thanks guys, sensible responses.

Bert, I agree, it's certainly shown me a few things.
Liveseytowers, your right about putting the kids in, but I wouldn't drive like a tw@ with them in the car, so I'm not going to let that point sink in - although you are right. - the S2000 is only a 2 seater though.

Lovely car and fantastic noise but i will echo what livesey just said about death trap. I remeber seeing one in a salvage yard after a side impact accident and it was evident that all inside had either died or been very seriously injured!
Think theyre made out of fibreglass or something which definately didn't do a good job of keeping the other car off of the passengers.
I really loved them untill i seen this.
We've had a pretty shit year last year with my lil-boy being in intensive care for best part of 3-months (ok now thank god) so i've said "Fuck It" and treated us to a nice holiday in Florida this year.

    Thanks to RSV

RSV - sorry too hear that and glad all is now ok.

I'll be honest that on the rear occasion that thhe kids will sit in it, will literally only to go to the shops and back, it's not something that they will use that much. it's more of a Daddy's toy, but it's not as dangerous as a motorbike, which the wife also said no to.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Also it is a Cerb, so if/when she does start move the argument to the car and drive through some tunnels. You'll drown her out.

My opinion for what its worth

Great cars , sound and performance, certainly not something I would be putting the family in so they dont become accustomed to the RAC man and the lampost on that sharp left in the wet

But more worryingly, shouldnt you be discussing this with the wife before the cyber community

Cum on man grow a pair and when she tells you no fuckin chance then we will all sympathise with you

Go retro, and get yourself an Audi Quattro - you could get a really mint one for the cash you would lay out on a decent TVR and the Quattro sticks to the road like glue. There's also the 'Life on Mars' cool factor to go with it. Loads of room for the kids too.

They only get expensive if the transmission starts going South, so lots of service history is a must.

I'm hoping on the same car soon and have wife and 2 kids that's why I picked it to. But I plan to sprint the car as I feel I will get the beat use out of it that way so I put it to her about sprint weekends and it will be like a mini holiday. Yes the smashes up real easy but that is because it's built like a race car and keeps you safe inside while the car dissipates the impact around you. If you get one over 40000 miles most of what will go wrong will have been fixed by then. All in all you can pick up a great one for under Ł10000 and have a top speed of 180 and 0 to 60 of 4.2 just get it and make it a sport and a hobby.

The TVR is not just a 'car' therefore is exempt!

You need 2 cars, because the TVR will be constantly breaking down. Although this may not win you the argument.

Also... Why does she need 2 Hand bags / pairs of shoes / etc.

get yourself a westy or a caterham and go trackdaying, you'll never look back, also you can make the whole weekend into a family trip out. No insurance required or Tax or MOT although you will need transport i.e. a trailer.

Thanks Lighty, but I originally wanted a Tiger Super Cat or similar, however it's only a 2 seater so she said you'll have to wait another 10 years when the kids are off hand. Then I found the TVR, solves the problem of waiting...
if I'm allowed to get it I still like what super mike said, it's easier to ask for forgivness

If the kids are only going to go in it on the odd trip to the shop and you have another family car why does it need to have 4 seats anyway? Have a 2 seater toy!!

this is true, but on the odd occasion it's nice to be able to all get in it and go somewhere, there's always the option to take both of them out in it when necessary, I wouldn't want to be limited while they're still both so young. If they were old enough to leave on their own then yes i'd go for a 2 seater.
Test driving it oon Saturday, so lets see what hapens.
