Is there a new way for cable tv?

Hello folk
Havent been around much here for a while but this was the first forum I learnt from.

I was doing a market yesterday in Liverpool
I sell free and public stuff revamped.
Anyway this bloke started talking about cable boxes and the modems.
He was expensive but interesting and I am wondering now if its common knowledge or brand new.
He offered to show me his set-up but I didn't have time.

I've had a quick look round here and found nothing, maybe i've not enough credits/posts/whatever to see

any pointers on this ?

I could do with some help with the questions.. I dont want to leave anything out
I've never modded a box b4 (just had eurovox) had a dabble with i*v digital

It's a no go these days, only CS if your area is locked down and if it isn't it will be very soon.
