Tech Custom ROM for HTC Sensation

I'm going to pick up my Sensation tonight, it's brand new sealed in the box supply from Vodafone.

Before I fire it up and start using it, are there any recommended suggestions for updating it or putting a custom ROM onto it? My last Android handset was an HTC Magic and I installed Cyanogenmod to that and noticed it was a lot smoother - should I do something similar with this?

Still waiting for HTC to unlock the bootloader I think, unless the recent update has done it, I haven't had the OTA update yet. Wait and see though because the stock rom with Sense is excellent.
Voda have had the update, this phone is so powerful and Sense is so good you may not want to faff with it.

aye I'd just leave it, when I got my desire it was a good option to root it as the current 2.2 version didnt allow you to install apps to the SD and since the Desire and about 16k of memory this soon became an issue. With newer phones this isnt a problem anymore. Play with the stock rom for a few months, once you are bored with that there should be more options for tinkering.

Can S-off it now, think if I get one I will end up using LeeDroid, have been happy with LeeDroid on my Desire for ages. Saying that I would try stock first and if no problems would prob leave it stock.

As beers has said the official method was announced a couple of weeks ago, although I'm using the 'unofficial' method so I can s-on again if I want/need to.

Not sure about roms yet as I haven't flashed, although leedroid seems to a be a popular one.

Yep I saw that page, I'm on 3, no update yet so I guess that's why I don't have the right software version. I know Voda have updated, do we know which other telcos have?

Picked up the phone last night, nice to have a change after 3 years of iPhone. At the moment the stock ROM seems to be working well, fast enough and no issues that I can see - time will tell how the battery is I guess.

I'm with Vodafone, the firmware is 2.3.3. (Software Version : 1.35.401.1)

There is an update button, when I press it says no update available.

Another funny thing is that at home, in city and at work I'm getting an HSDPA connection - my iPhone never signalled this, it always said 3G.

Mine was a voda on that version, unlocked by default, I'm using it on O2... just used revolutionary to S-Off then flashed leedroid.

Hmm, I'm using my MicroSIM in it that came with my iPhone 4 (Vodafone) - it should have worked?

I'm not sure if the Sensation is unlocked or not, there is no Vodafone branding or anything on the box. I'll connect to my WiFi when I go home and try it again.

You still need to do it yourself. As Waka said above, you are better to use the unofficial method because the HTC link pretty much tears up your warranty. I don't know if I am allowed to post the link, but just google 'revolutionary S-off' (think its the 4th link down). This will achieve the same result, but still enable you to put it back again if something happens to your handset

    Thanks to moonrat
