Question Eset Smart Security blocking wireless printer

I'm having an issue with a new hp wireless printer.. wireless is connected and working fine. If i stop the inbuilt firewall the printer works fine, but once i enable it, the printer has a printing error.
I have tried most all settings to try and get this to connect but i cant seem to get it.
I have added the ip address of the printer to the trusted zone, i've tried to add it to exceptions, but nothing seems to be working
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this printer working?

    Thanks in advance

What firewall mode do you use? When I used to have SmartSecurity installed I opted for interactive mode as then I was asked to allow or block a program each time it tried to access the network.

The port or service required by the printer is probably blocked. Part of the advanced menu lists programs and services IIRC, see if anything is there and alter the settings to allow incoming and outgoing connections.

    Thanks to evilsatan

I did have it on automatic mode but since changed it to interactive. When I try and print there is nothing that comes up to ask me to allow or deny the printing x

This may not be relevant to you, but it may help.

I had the same problem with a Kodak Printer. I turned out to be a problem with the Packet Inspection Checking options. I just had to do the following:

    Advanced Settings
    IDS and advanced options
    Packet Inspection
    Deselect ICMP protocol message checking

I found it by trial and error, having been guided to the "IDS and advanced options" section by other forums. I would consider any of the settings in that section.

You will initially need Interactive mode to set the rule.

2 Thanks given to Tony Sexton

It may be easier and faster to delete all the rules already set up on automatic mode, restart and try again now its in interactive mode it should the ask for authorisation.

    Thanks to syscon
