Express / Urgent prescription glasses

Does anyone here have any experience of getting prescription glasses made up FAST?

The missus has just broken her only pair (don't know why she doesn't have a spare)

Her prescription isn't simple (prisms and reactive)

We're off on hols soon and everyone is quoting over 6 days!

Help!

Glasses direct have been good with service. Usually 2 days with mine(prisms as well) but not sure about the reactive coating....

Bit of a limited stock of frames is the only problem.

Most of the big ones have in-store lab's but its about their stock of lenses if they are complex they have to order them.

I have a +6.75 so need ultra thin usual Nikon lenses and they take as you say 5 to 6 days. Only ever been able to get the thick plastic lenses same day.

Alternately get the frames repaired.

Best think to do is ring some of the larger branches up and ask if they have the lens in stock.

Slightly off subject but its daylight robbery to charge 50 - 150 quid for frames when the trade price is £1 to £12 for most pairs without lenses.

Not sure if this is applicable but when my mother worked in an opticians she would make any lens there and then using blanks and machines in the shop and tinting, might be worth checking out some of the smaller shops if they have the gear

not much use to you, but I had a pair made up in about 10minutes last month, I was in Beijing though

		Where are you going? It might be worth checking if you can get glasses made there. I remember reading a few years back about cheap glasses in Europe (compared to UK prices)

Cheers for the replies chaps - we've tried all the opticians we can locally and none have the lens required in stock to make up a new set for her in time.

Think I've managed as a stop gap to source a pair of the same frames that they can move the lens over to.
