Now that the Microsoft Build Conference has ended, you can now download a pre-beta copy of Windows 8. *As this is an early build of Windows 8, it is not recommended that you install this on a production machine as it might not be stable enough. *Also, some features in this build may not make it through to the final version of Windows 8.

I tried this out today and it is pretty slick... load times are amazing. However you can see that they are really pushing towards the tablet type OS. Gone is your traditional start menu, its all like a windows phone!

I can see MS making a shit loads on touch screen monitors!

The Windows 7 core seems to still be there, but I must confess that I didn't install anything on top, because it is very noticeable that this isn't anywhere near a finished product and it has all the signs of a time limited demo that isn't really meant for normal use.

i thought it was a bit slow i have it on duel boot tho but windows 7 loads much faster and sometimes windows hangs.. that aside because it is alpha looking really nice the new twitter and facebook intergration its nice shame there is no msn intergation yet and i would like to see some sort of alerts for facebook and twitter

Quite liking it so far. Obviously things aren't running perfect, but ie 10 looks swish, Facebook/Twatter integration is pretty polished. I like the start screen but I think it'd take some getting used to for a non-tablet/non-touchscreen. Nice & quick install, quick boot, very good loading times. One thing I've noticed in the (very nice new) task manager, everything keeps running in the background like it would on iOS. Well, either running or suspended.

The oldest thing I had to hand was Office 2003... it worked fine. However, it just adds a shitty normal Icons to the new icon area. Its clear that the new icon must use some kind new format for hi res graphics.

Having said that after installing Office 2003, when you open word, excel etc... the screen loads in a millisecond, how the fuck do they do that?

At Last i have found the Shutdown Button. Looks Pish.Under the skin is ok so far, but that App UI looks Terrible. So far God Mode for Win 7 works on it so at least things can be found. It looks like Win 7 with a dollop of shite on top.

Your Call M8 this is only for playing with, not as an everyday OS. If you want an everyday OS then stay away.Only for use on a spare machine or as a Duel Boot.
