Tech OnLive launched today in UK

Onlive has launched its service in the UK today

Gave it a quick blast and I'm very impressed, was playing war hammer and dues ex on my iMac and they ran great on my 20meg connection.

First game is £1 so worth a punt.

the £6.99 a month deal has some decent games on it also, some i wanted to try but not pay full price for.

Looking at some of their E3 2011 videos they seem to have their fingers in a lot of pies also.

    Anyone else tired this yet?

Been playing with this since launch day and love it. Have signed up today for the pack at £6.99 and pre ordered saint's row 3 at a 30% discount AND a free onlive console to boot. If you have a reliable and unlimited net connection it's spot on. It uses just over 2.5GB an hour but will run a bit less if needs be (video quality will suffer a little)

It runs full screen full res and completely lag free on my macbook's 1280x800 screen and is plug and play with a wired xbox360 pad. I got deus ex for a quid and playing demos with no download time is brilliant.

Hardcore gamers will want dedicated hardware etc, but for occasional gamers like me, the no wait and instant on is perfect.

It's a great idea but the resolution in Homefront sucks and until they get it looking good on my 24' iMac or 40' Sony TV I'm just not into it, once sorted I'll be happy to make it my only gaming platform platform.

I keep meaning to get my macbook hooked up to my 42" to see how it is, but I've never done it so don't think I own the correct leads atm. I do like the way it runs on the internal screen tho. Deus ex looks lovely. My free onlive console hasn't shipped yet.

Forgot to say, I'm on a 20Mb BT adsl line and it runs around 700kB/s constantly when full tilt (so around 5.6Mb/s). I also had much better results when using a wired ethernet connection rather than wireless. Wireless ran ok but would occasionally the video quality would negotiate a bit lower. On Ethernet it stayed perfect.

My console was delivered today, set it up and signed in to my account and was up and running in minutes. I was impressed with the way it worked on my mac and the console is better! Games running in full 1080p HD on my 42" Panasonic Plasma and the quality is perfect. I too am on a 20mb ADSL line and having no issues what so ever with it.

    Cheers

If you are using virgin media, you might as well go fire up the C64 as Virgin throttling will fuck over your screen res down to postage size!

Rather than buying the 'console', can you just link up your PC to your TV and have it run fullscreen without any issues? Thought I might try that and then use my PS3 controller via usb.

Even with traffic management VM speeds still meet their recommended 5mb unless you're on their lowest speed.

I ordered it on Friday, was shipped on Monday. It was attempted to be delivered on the tuesday but i wasn't in. Speedy service from them.

I really like the pad you get with it, its like a cross between the 360 and ps3 pad. 2 analogue sticks (PS style) a Dpad, X Y A B buttons, 2 bumper buttons and 2 triggers. The triggers have a great tactile feel to them, much better than the 360's. There are also media buttons on the bottom and an instant record button that records brag videos when in game.

Just seen that they have changed the offer now, get a free console when you pre order batman arkham city which is a great deal!

If anyone wants to add me as a friend on this my game tag is Scottio200

Not True... Virgin Throttle 75% of package speed. If you have S,M or L package this will be well below the recommended 5mbs+ speed, if you have the XL package, you will be borderline, you are only ok if you have the XXL (50mbs) or the XXXL (100mbs) package.

The girl speaks the truth. If it uses 2.5GB an hour and you are on virgin you'll be throttled after 40 min's to 250kbs for 5 hours which isn't fast enough.

There's a thread discussing OnLive & Virgin on Cable Forum. While it's not 'supposed' to be affected by their application management (the same way P2P is), it is obviously affected by the download cap allowed. According to the thread, 3.38GB downloaded in 90 mins. So basically, yeah, shagged on VM in a very short time.

Also recommend turning on private when playing, then you don't get all the sad gawkers giving you thumbs down as you're playing. Especially if you're shit like me with 'incompatible hardware' (trackball mouse).

S & M (ooh err) aren't even offered any more, the lowest you can get is L (10mb) so that is currently their lowest offered speed.

S & M are legacy platforms & there are still people on those speeds, you just can't get them as a new customer or downgrade to them.

    http://shop.virginmedia.com/help/tra...r-uploads.html

There's two 10mb platforms as well. One allowing 3GB download before throttling and one allowing 1GB before throttling (M).

Point being, for the vast majority it shouldn't be a problem.

I suspect the graphic problems I had with Homefront might be the game as Arkham Asylum looks stunning on ALL platforms, 50meg VM here.

Its only 3GB in the day time, if you download 1.5GB after 4pm you'll get capped within the hour on the L 10MB connection that i'm on.
