    Help Facebook

Since we all know facebook has changed its layout, how on earth do we just get it to show photos and status updates rather than showing newsfeed all the time? Its got me baffled, must admit I do like the new layout.

What are everyone elses thoughts aswell?

    cheers

god knows how to do anything on it anymore!!
how to lose a millions users in a day!!
the people over at facebook mission control are stupid there has not been a single 'update' to it on the last 2 years that it couldnt manage perfectly well without and that didnt actually make things worse and less user friendly. Take the chat bar for example, ok i know its been tweaked now but for 2 months it told you who was online but you could only see a handful of them.

think they need to be a bit careful how they mess with it from now on due to google + being available as a crediblw alternative.

    ill shut up now!! :-)

Best workaround I can see (and I'm not really suffering - I don't see the new news ticker - but this works anyway) to get your page back to how it was with posts in chronological order is go over to the left hand side to lists, hover your mouse over 'more' and then create a list. Put in everyone you want to see updates from (friends and pages), give it a name and save it. Then change your Facebook bookmark to the shortcut for that list. Now when you hit that bookmark you'll go straight to that list which looks identical to how FB did before the changes. As I say, I can't see the ticker myself but I believe this gets rid of that too.

Thing that is bugging me the most is people posting up about "Copy this or Facebook will charge us".

Yes, that's right. Facebook will bring in charges, lose millions of users and then millions of dollars due to the advertising losses. Think it through, idiots.

People fall for that one twice a year, remember most people on there are gullible, computer shy idiots.

I wasn't a big fan of it when it changed to the new layout a couple of weeks back but I turned on that timeline view via the Developer program - it's awesome with that, now I'm looking forward to seeing that turned on for everyone's account in a week or two!

I always feel forced into using Facebook rather than wanting to by family like my mother wanting me to look at yet another picture of her overweight flea bitten dog doing something stupid, I use Google Plus more as I find it slightly less cluttered and easier to navigate but mainly to see how many people I can offend and post pointless shit.

It should be kept simple not changed every few weeks, must be losing loads of users but on the other hand they can't because you can't delete your account, and with this cookie tracking business makes me think were even more tied into it. And farmville should be abolished!! lol

A Facebook engineer has said the social networking company does not use persistent cookies to track users when people are not logged in to Facebook.

Facebook cookies are primarily used for service and security reasons, Facebook login engineer Gregg Stefancik said on Monday.

"Our cookies aren't used for tracking. They just aren't," said Stefancik in comments on a blog post. "Instead, we use our cookies to either provide custom content (e.g. your friend's likes within a social plugin), help improve or maintain our service (e.g. measuring click-through rates to help optimize performance), or protect our users and our service (e.g. defending denial of service attacks or requiring a second authentication factor for a login from a suspicious location)."

Facebook has been repeatedly criticised over user privacy issues, and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has acknowledged that there is often a "backlash" against new Facebook features.

Australian researcher Nik Cubrilovic said in a blog post on Sunday that Facebook alters the state of cookies stored on a user's computer when they have logged out, but does not remove the cookies. Moreover, nine cookies, including account identification, are sent to Facebook every time a user visits a site with a Facebook 'like' button, Cubrilovic said.

"With my browser logged out of Facebook, whenever I visit any page with a Facebook like button, or share button, or any other widget, the information, including my account ID, is still being sent to Facebook," said Cubrilovic. "The only solution to Facebook not knowing who you are is to delete all Facebook cookies."

Cubrilovic said that he had discovered a cookie called 'act', which he claimed stood for 'account number', which allowed Facebook to identify logged-out users online.

Stefancik countered this claim in a comment on Cubrilovic's blog post by saying that 'act' in fact stood for 'action', and was a UNIX timestamp used to measure and optimise the speed of the site. Moreover, Facebook deletes account-specific cookies when a user logs out, said Stefancik.

A Facebook spokeswoman on Monday confirmed that Stefancik had commented on Cubrilovic's blog.

I deactivated my account some time back now, for many reasons. One of them also being that to me it feels like an awful waste of human life. I read a news header some weeks ago which said something like "Facebook surpasses mobile phones as the preferred method of keeping in touch". Maybe I'm a bit old-school, but I prefer talking to people on the phone, and then meeting people when possible. Facebook is like a social filter, and rarely is life such as it is portrayed by individuals there.
“If I asked you to have sex with me, would the answer to that question be the same as the answer to this question?”

It was a massive strain on my last two relationships - I'm going to deactivate once I get another lady.

Google+ is failing a bit though....
