Want a new hard Drive - get one quick !

Just seen that the 2TB Western Digital hard drive I got from Scan last week for £53 has shot up to £79, and the 1TB Samsung F3's that were as low as £35 are now £60.
This is aparantly due to flooding in Thailand and Indonesia, and prices are expected to keep going up....supplies are expected to actualy run out.

So if you are in the market for a drive, might be worth getting one quick !

After reading a few comments about this site I would steer clear. They have 5 star reviews on google shopping but web search reveals bad reviews and they are currently only accepting bank transfer as payment. I almost bought 3 drives from them this morning but opted not to.

The WD Black I got last year for around 75 is now up at nearly twice that at Scan. Fucking disgrace.

Green drives are fine for raid if you use the wdidle utility before hand. Just turn off the parking of heads after 8 seconds.

I have 4 of them in Raid 5 and they work fine.

Picked up 2 * 1.5TB's from PCWorld couple of weeks ago for £37.99 each, think they were end of line though as no stock instore

Bit pissed off at saverstore, they just cancelled my order stating it is due to a pricing error which is bollocks as they are listed at the usual RRP:

I sent the drive back on an RMA as it was faulty...sent it back and received a mail from Scan today saying they had verified it was faulty and was being assigned a replacement or refund. Just checked on Scan and they are out of stock now.....so it looks like i'm gonna get dicked.

I was lucky I filled my ReadyNAS with 4x2TB before any of this, cost £100 for 2x2TB drives!! Can't believe the prices going around at the moment, I would imagine the only places not changing prices are the likes of PC World, Currys etc. although I wouldn't put it past them. I will be stocking up whenever possible but doubt there are many outlets left with decent prices and stock.
