Anybody using Goolge's Cloud Services?
This week I decided to give some of my media a better back-up. I have a NAS with RAID 5, and several USB drives so the NAS is also backed up. But I wanted more. So I thought I'd check out some of the cloud services. As I already use google quite a bit, what with having an android phone. I decided to upload my photos, as that's my most important data, first. So I paid £3 for 20GB of extra space (if you upload in <2400 resolution it's free) so that I could upload my photos without compression. 20GB was enough for all my photos. I used Picassa to organise and changed a few settings and all was done. Now just the arduous task of waiting for my 250k upload to sort it out.
Now I was hooked. I wanted more.
So I managed to wangle an invite to google music beta. Only open to Yanks apparently. But a VPN later I was in.
Now I am backing up my whole music collection - 19,800 songs - to the cloud.
I have 3 invites left, if anyone is interested. Those people will then get 8 invites, so theoretically we could get everyone here that wants to, onboard.
2012 is the year of the cloud. I hope that apple and google undercut each other to the extent where I can upload my entire NAS contents to a cloud of some description.
