    Tech Dropbox.com

    Good evening lords n ladies,

It seem i'm in need of sharing some files up to (and maybe over) 2gb with a group of people. I've just been looking at the free to use Dropbox but it requires downloading software ... I hate bloatware ...

Is there an online alternative nowadays? Pref without installing crap onto my computer.

I know I can use my NAS but don't have the time for all the faff.

    Cheers
    ERU

I would give Dropbox the time of day to be honest, it's a pretty amazing piece of tech.

All the software is for is for keeping a particular folder in sync with the online dropbox, you can then share that folder with your group, completely transparently.

Dropbox software is tiny, just runs in the task bar and syncs a local folder. Although I thought you could do it all with the web interface, another I use is http://skydrive.live.com/ just uses your MS passport if you have one, 5GB free I think.

    +2 for Dropbox.

100% agree what you say about bloatware, but Dropbox isn't like that.

I really would encourage you to give it a go.

Dropbox is pretty decent. I'm sure you can run it from a pen drive as well to keep your machine "bloat" free !

    Another for dropbox....

But have you looked at Box.net...?
If you create it from an apple device you get 50gb free.
has an android client, PC client, iphone, ipad....

    Just not Mac client yet.
2gb file limit though i think unless you pay...

Does anyone use Dropbox at work or is it seen as not secure enough for business use? It would come in handy for us whilst we are doing the infrastructure refresh but i've always thought it would be frowned upon.

I use it for personal files but my work's also use it (Business service).

I also use a load of other online storage solutions like box.net but Dropbox is my preferred as it automatically uploads files and shares etc..
