Question Difference between regular Sky+HD and 1Tb box

    Hi

So I've recently had sky installed, and paid for the 1TB box. Thing is, I'm not exactly sure whether the right box has been fitted, as the internal memory seems to be getting used faster than I would have thought.

Are there any easy ways to tell the difference between the two boxes? The model number if DRX890-C.

    I could be completely wrong.

    Thanks

It doesnt take much to fill it if Its in HD. I have a 1gb box but half of it is used for Anytime. Always deleting stuff. Reminded me of this:-

Yes I am. The 1TB box purports to be able to save 240 hours of HD TV, but I am losing more than 1% of my capacity for each hour of tv :-/

Oh, maybe when they say up to 240 hours they are talking about 720 rather than 1080?

I've moved from VM and so am not used to this 'up to' business

    Just switch Anytime off then!

Dont think that makes any difference....the raw data is broadcast in 1080i whatever you watch it!

Remember 10mins of hd and about an hour both shows as 1%.

As above minimum 30% will be taken up by Anytime....if you want more capacity switch Anytime off.

The 1TB Sky box is actually a 1.5TB HD of which 500GB is reserved for Anytime. Disabling Anytime will not give you any extra space as the box will not use the extra 500GB, only the advertised 1TB.

    Thanks to stimpy

Yes a standard HD box has a handset thats silver in colour and a 1TB box handset is all black.

    Standard HD box
    Attachment 24313

    1TB box
    Attachment 24314

If you have the DRX890 installed thats a standard HD box and its been installed incorrectly, just call the installer up and get the box changed the correct model number is DRX 895.

Yes I have the silver panel one, with a silver remote. Have called them and they're going to call me back to sort.

    No.

Because if he was a Sky engineer the job description on his MFT would say New Install Sky HD and on the bottom line which he needs to scroll down would say 1TB ect, etc.

Its a easy mistake thats been sorted and no one caused any hardship and the customer (above) was sorted in the end same day.

So no he was not trying to pull a fast one and if he did try it on, each box that gets acclocated to a engineer has a bar code which is attached to the engineer and gets scanned each time its allocated to a job so engineers cannot and will not try to steal a 1TB box.

Yeah, he was given x number of boxes for the day, mine must have been allocated wrong by someone in a dispatch position.

Simple mistake, it's going to happen occasionally. All sorted now. which is the important thing.
