I hope you have a peaceful one.

If one of you is miserable out there, I've been there and it gets better.

Story time: A man in his twenties spent Christmas alone in a rented house in the middle of the woods. He and his girlfriend had broken up and as he didn't have money to pay for the electricity bill he was sitting in a totally dark house, with it being December in Finland, it was almost darker outside than inside the house. His car was not MOT'd, no insurance and was not in a shape to be driven anywhere, as it was pretty much destroyed from a prior accident. This was before mobile phones, so he spent Christmas like that, with his own thoughts only.
Today he is living the suburban dream with his own house, girlfriend, two cars etc... what's missing is the rocking chair and the Uncle Scrooge shotgun. My brother

I'm spending Christmas in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), as I don't have enough vacation days left to fly to Europe, but at least I can get the hell out of Singapore for a few days.

Thanks, yes, can recommend Vietnam, if you want to do more of an Madventures type of tour (not do the typical tourist things), then go to Hanoi and the old North Vietnam.
Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh City is more western, so it's like any other city I've been to here in Asia, yet I did like it very much. Also if you go to Vietnam, then you might as well do Laos and Cambodia too.
I haven't been to many countries here, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam only so not an expert at all.
But if one wants to tour Asia and is pushed with time, then I would skip Indonesia all together (unless you want to cross Bali off your bucketlist - in my opinion Bali is overrated, and is very much like the Canary Islands of Asia) and I would go to Borobudur instead.

I still want to see Tokyo before I move back to Europe, but even for me it's a 7 hour flight, so I need a bit more time than a long weekend for that.

DF t-shirt made it to Saigon I put the pics in that thread, bandwidth exceeded on Photobucket, so I upped them here on DF as attachments aswell.
