@braymond - I've been desperately looking into the ac3 issue and I think I have now exhausted all avenues. Even with the new 2.0 beta, most apks do not work on the PB and this seems to include ALL media players. This is pretty much a deal breaker for me. These days there should be no need to reconvert. Even the iPad now has free video players in the market that will play all formats thrown at it. I think a proper Android device is my best bet.

Thanks for that - I'm finding The same but was hoping it was me being thick . I found a pre alpha vlc apk but i dont think it will work .
Mildly gutted as I bought this to watch media on mostly
Hey mate there have been a lot of discussion concerning the lack of AC3 support with the playbook and i believe that something might happen as RIM look to push the tablet back into the market. The playbook has suffered badly in sales and espec the marketing side hence the major price drop!!!
But the good thing that has happened is they have realised that there is a market for the device and that pricing structure was a bit adventurous, now with the news that OS2 is due out in Feb with the support for Android apps a lot of Developers have expanded in this market with them porting there apps over, so i would expect the AC3 issue to be resolved but when im not sure.

I wanted it for a smaller form internet tablet as I find the 10" ones a bit big. The browser is phenomenal so I'm not disappointed in the least.
The hackers have got their teeth into it too.
Speaking of which, I've found a different and easier jailbreak tutorial, so I think I'll give this a go and post it back if successful.
cheers,
malty

I'd still love to know how to get into the file system you can't see via the PB's USB lead.
I just used astro mate, when it opens it takes you to the android folder this is set as home. Then just press the UP folder and it will navigate you through to the other files, to access the your account just.
1 Open Astro
2 Click up folder
3 Scroll up to accounts
4 Click on the folder named 1000
5 then goto shared folder

Yeah, I tried that mate - this is what makes me think it's not working. The UP button does nothing. I'll try reinstalling it tomorrow.
es_file_explorer_v1_6_0_7.bar.zip try ES explorer its astro on steroids and does so much more too

Ah nice one. I'll give that a go tomorrow, cheers.
Ok, i was on the LATEST beta of OS2 so couldnt root! ....... you now CAN!
This is what i did:
- Download http://tinyurl.com/cy364dy and extract it somewhere
- Rename "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.4869.79475.signed.bar" to "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203.signed.bar" and make a copy of "
sys.andoid.bar"
- On 6149. Do a complete Backup of you Device (For later) with the Desktop Manager Software
- Downgrade to 1.0.8.6067. (Guide :: http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2011/...e-playbook-os/ )
- Sign up at the Blackberry page for OS2.0 Beta.
Now to the important part
- IMPORTANT! Use the Desktop Manager Software to update your device to 2.0.0.6149. During Step1 (Downloading) your Desktop manager will download the files to C:\Users\
\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Loader Cache.
- RIGHT AFTER the Desktop Manager Software downloaded the file "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203.signed.bar" and "sys.android.bar" copy your renamed "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203.signed.bar" from above and the "sys.android.bar" to the Local Cache folder. (Do not wait untill all bar files are downloaded, switch with 4869 files right after the individual bar file is completely downloaded)
- Now wait untill the download is completed. The Installer will install your 4869 bar files onto the device.
I done this last night and it worked like a charm
- Voila. You are on 4869. Now you can root with dingleberry.

Would anyone mind converting this apk and telling me if it works on the PB. I have mine now but don't want to open it unless I am keeping it.
The apk is a document viewer for PDFs (not Adobe Reader)
Can anyone suggest a good mail program. The packaged yahoo program requires you to log in each time it's used, and neither the gmail or yahoo programs check on an ongoing basis, a bar program would be great.
Thanks, corskey

hodge what are we able to do once the pb is rooted ?
thanks
Don't worry about this as I just returned it to CPW. It was an impulse purchase and I've decided I would be far better off with a proper Android tablet that does everything I need out of the box.
Sorry for all the questions but at the price I would like to have kept it but I'm better off spending a bit more.
hey mate onceits rooted you load android market on to it for a start, and now there is a lot of devs working to make the playbook dual boot running qnx and android, utbear in mind its still in the early stages.
if you enjoy mucking around with it may i suggest you do a quick google search on a prog called dosbox you can have some old fashioned fun with that.
