    Help Rear wheel bearing noisy

Hi guys, I have a 2002 renault scenic and it sounds like a wheel bearing is faulty as its emitting a loud humming noise and gets louder the faster you go. Is this something that need urgently replacing or can I drive on it for a bit before getting it seen to as funds are short this time of year as it is, thanks

Change them ASAP, it is an MOT failure, a danger to you and other road users if it totally fails and not to mention driving a car that you know is not fit for the road is illegal.

Mine was changed last month because it was noisy (but had zero play) and it cost me £170 for just the parts, but at least I now know my wheel isn't going to fly off and the car is safe to drive.

you car is only a year newer than mine and to be honest m8 rather than splashing the cash id have a crack at it myself, I'd never even changed the oil myself and I jacked the car up and replaced a snapped rear spring (ended up using an angle grinder to make it easier) and at the same time I changed both the disks and pads on the rear, at the time I was beyond broke and could only just afford the parts to tell you the truth, (it was a couple or so years ago when we had all that flooding and I had to move everything upstairs out of the flood water) im just glad I'd saved my haynes manual from the flood water in the kitchen lol) I did have this idea it'd be easier than I thought it was going to be, but it wasn't and it took me twice as long as I thought it would. But saved me at least a couple of hours of labour at a main dealer I think all in all it cost me about £50 and would have easily been double that and then some at a main dealer, smaller garages can be cheaper but its still going to add up quickly if you have the car in for 2-3 hours

If you do have a go yourself be aware the bearing can only be fitted one way as these have a magnetic pick up built in the bearing for the abs.
