Next Xbox AND PS4 set for biggest ever E3

Both the Xbox 360 successor AND a follow up to the PS3 will be shown at E3 2012.
The LA show tease will come as Wii U launch details are locked in � and should ensure no ground is lost between competing consoles.
It will mark the very first time in the show�s 17-year history that three fresh, rival console formats will be so directly comparable.
Microsoft has long been rumoured to detail its next-gen plans at E3 2012, and MCV's third-party publishing sources claim the firm had signalled to partners this will happen.
The 360 is one of the longest-serving games consoles in history. But the real surprise is an early move from Sony. Execs at the PlayStation firm have made it clear to third-parties that they will not be left behind this time.
Execs aren�t expecting price or launch details for the new Xbox or PlayStation. But their unveiling could be a perfect spoiler to the pre-Christmas launch date and price that will be revealed for Wii U in June.

.. just as I predicted last year. :-) Plus Sony do not want a repeat of releasing their console a year behind again.

Expect some very cool exclusive game title announcements at E3.

dare we say these new consoles will be downloaded titles only and its now the end of the gaming shops world wide ? or the shops are replaced with digital codes to pay for to then download your games ? disc free machines perhaps ?

Ridiculous decision as xbox360 has lots of live in it yet. I don't think we would see these untill late 2013, any earlier is just silly.

But that'll be Japan won't it - Christmas sell out 2013 for us!!

So how many of us have had faulty Xbox and PS3 in this console generation? The issue is for me to buy a machine that lasts through the entire lifecycle with a Ring/Light/Odour/Fan noise of Death. Too much too ask?

Better graphics with mega levels of detail in full 1080p hopefully. Forza 4 doesn't look half as impressive on my HD Projector blown up to 100"

prices will be the same as launch, maybe slightly higher. Will be very interesting to see where they take the next console, I dont think either company can just bang on about resolutions and internet play again since they both do that already.
Graphics will probably be on par with the current high end PC cards too, they wont push it higher than that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they go down the onlive route. It's more cost effective for them and the consumer. By 2013 general Internet connections will be faster and 100mb connections will be a lot more common. The ps3 was initially planned as a dumb terminal. Technology just wasn't quite there.

Can't see them going down the on Live route yet. - would be a step backwards , most people have 2mb lines which wouldnt deliver the standard of gaming most are used to . I think you will see them play it safe with more powerful devices with integrated Kinect / eye stuff etc .

Sony spoke about doing the onlive thing even before the PS2 was released but obviously internet speeds fast enough were a dream back then. Even now, I cant see them going on a purely download or streamed route, far too many people would be unable to buy the console and generally it would be too complicated for the average parent. A console and a physical game media is here to stay for a good while just yet.

I really hope they do something more interesting than just copying whats already out there or just polishing what they already have, lets have 3 consoles that are completely different, have different games and each offer something unique. I have virtually zero interest in playing another GTA or Gran Turismo with a better draw distance or smoother frame rates.

They can't go to purely digital downloads yet, it would rule out a quarter of the American market who aren't online yet... I think it will be pushed heavily this time though.

wonder if MS would use HD-DVD discs for storing games so they wouldn't have to pay royalties to Sony for use of Bluray, a dvd's capacity will not be anywhere near large enough however not offering Bluray playback could be a mistake, personally i think they should concentrate on streaming services (LAN and WAN) as more and more people are using these methods rather than DVD/Bluray

I bet a majority of the UK are on 1-2 meg connections or less at peek times I can't see them being purely digital downloads. We have 3 360's in our house and at peek times our Virgin 10meg drops to around 2 meg so if they were purely digital downloads we would be stuck for ages waiting for d/l's
